New engine time. /Thread.
Obviously the sludge is due to the lack of oil changes. Therefore, I'm sure the oil passages in the engine are semi clogged as well. All of the moving parts are scored/damaged.

I would've run the engine with seafoam in the oil or diesel or MMO or something. Worth a shot

(Quietly awaiting someone to think diesel in the engine is the most dangerous thing ever)

Actually, people use diesel to lube up old blocks that have been sitting for a long time. They open the valve cover and squirt some in and hand crank the block to distribute the oil. Once they start the engine, the oil eventually burns off. I never done it myself but know it's been done.

Pull the crank main and rod caps and inspect the bearings for damage. Pull the valve covers and inspect valvetrain for damage. If either of these areas shows above normal wear and tear, you're probably boned. Might be a good idea to have a mechanic do an inspection.

It can be done. I have done it. Without a picture it is hard to give any advice. Pulling the valve covers and doing a massive cleaning is one thing you can do. You have to be very very careful if you go that route. Another thing to do is to inspect the oil pickup tube. I would also use a can of Engine Kleen through it at idle. It is basically Kerosene. After that I would change the oil/filter again and add a can of BG MOA to the oil. I would do this every oil change for a while. A guy did a video on what to do on Youtube. It was very accurate on what needs to be done, step by step.

Just change the oil with some heavy detergent oil and start changing the oil every 1k miles for a while. No point building an engine till it's really toast. If you're lucky, the critical areas will clean up and the motor will still last a long time.
Do it with some cheap penzoil for a couple of changes then go to good stuff when you see it stays clean longer. look for: "Helps prevent sludge and other damaging deposits Helps clean up existing sludge in your engine Provides proven wear protection" in the description.
