For the 7AT guys with FI

Hey guys running around 500rwhp or thereabouts, did you guys upgrade the 7AT tranny?

I am planning on Stillen A2A SC, but worried about my tranny blowing up. Do the factory trannys reguarly fail with hard driving with FI?

I have read the entire 7AT and FI thread, some ppl say theirs fails some say it doesn't.

Basically do I need to beef up my stock trans if i am aiming for 400-500whp?

If so, do I need something like the whole level 10 7at transmission, or can I get away with just the level 10 valve body, or level 10 torque converter?

And should I also be grabbing the FI flexplate and oil pan spacer?

I am in Australia so I don't really want to ship over a complete level 10 trans from the states, going to cost an arm and a leg if it already isn't going to.

400WHP would be pushing it, 500WHP it will make it down the street from the tuner before a replacement

I believe somewhere on the site it said 350WHP is safe and most of those who go FI dont push the AT past that number.. otherwise KaBoom, Flexplate & Oil pan will always help the cause but not the power going to the tranny, its still a risk.

As far as the lvl10 AT, I hear that its mainly the Valve Bodies that are popping

It's not the hp, it's the torque. The old rule of thumb was that the clutch packs in 5/6/7 weren't able to handle over 400 foot pounds at the wheels. There haven't been a lot of people who have reported blowing them up, but I couldn't tell you whether that's because not a lot of people boost the 7AT, those that do blow them up don't post about it, or they don't blow up.

I'm boosted with only a GTM valve body upgrade but I don't boost in 5/6/7 gears. I think winding out 4th gear gets you up to 122mph so that's fine with me.

I also make sure to warm up the trans oil before boosting. Trans still working, knock on wood.

Well it would suck to dump a mountain of cash into SC A2A to 500hp but not being allowed to launch it, or boost in high gears.

What do I do? Sell 7AT and get a 6M and buy a heavy duty clutch, then go FI?

I still launch it, just not in 5-7 gear. I guess if you're doing a highway race to 140mph then you would need to build the transmission with a 7AT.

Ok.
