I usually let it idle until the dots on the bottom of the gas gauge hits the third or fourth dot before easing it away.
I live pretty deep in my neighborhood so that bottom dot is usually in the 'operating range' (when the dot doesnt move anymore). Im not sure what that dot is.. water temp? Im also a smoker. Yes I smoke in the Z. That usually helps during idle I never floor the gas though, not until temps has reached atleast 150.. others might say around 180.
