Dont worry, its not going to hurt your engine. I always warm my stuff up before going enywhere too but unless you just get in every day and redline it right from the start when it's cold as hell outside, you won't cause any undue wear.

Sounds like a waste of gas. I start the car, let it run for 30-60 seconds, then go. Drive gently first few miles until it warms up.
When it's really cold (below freezing), I might let it run for 1-2 min just so I can get some heat going.

Cars are designed to be driven after just a few seconds. As per Jsolo, letting it idle is a waste of gas. Take it easy until the engine is heated up.

oem Tolerances between piston and cylinder wall are built with 99% of the population in mind who will start car, pull out of driveway and floor it down the street, otherwise everybodys engines would be seizing. All your doing flooring a cold engine is burining a little oil because the piston and cylinder wall havent expanded to operating tolerance yetl. if you have built engine then different story, you have to know what rate your piston expands vs cyclinder wall expands and what tolerance you built to cold to know if you have a chance of seizing . thats why most oem dont like to use forged pistons because they expand a lot more and need looser tolerance because joe schmoe is too ignorant and will floor his cold engine and seize the engine so they have to make looser tolerance which mean more oil burning which means joe schmoe will complain, so they think why even bother with forged pistons becasue either way hoe schmoe will create problems for them, see?

Jeez, I haven't let a car warm up since the days of carburetors. I take that back....on days when it's -10 degrees F, I turn it on and run back in the house for a while.

Operating temps before driving
I just make sure I've got oil pressure, then go, except in during the winter. I'm actually warming the car up then because I'm a wuss and don't want to freeze my fat butt.

Winter makes me think of Caribbean Cruises. Just came back from going to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta.

Just start the car wait 30 seconds and go gently. When oil is at operating temperature then drive it like you stole it. I do this every time.
