CSC Failure New Owner
I've had my 2013 370z (17,341 miles) for 30 days. CSC failure has happened. How should I approach Nissan and the dealer I bought from (Acura)?
I have plans for clutch upgrade in 7 - 8 weeks, but really don't feel like this is an expense I should be fronting with just buying the car. Suggestions? |
Hate to be that guy: You're gonna want an aftermarket setup altogether.
If your car is under warranty, I'd try to go that route. But you bought it from an Acura dealer. Some Nissan dealers would understand the situation. In the grand scheme of things, though, this is just a band-aid at best...and maybe an expensive one. My used 2013 ended warranty in March (figures, that's why he sold it lol). To replace JUST the CSC — yes, the garbo OEM CSC — they wanted nearly as much as I paid to get the ZSpeed unit, a new master, better fluid, and new clutch and lighter flywheel, on top of labor at a specialist. And really, you'd need to replace the master regardless of whatever new CSC you swap in. So if you're gonna spend on that, you end up realizing the full plunge is the only way to go while the transmission is dropped, otherwise you're paying double for labor in the long run — and I strongly insist driveability is way better once you upgrade from OEM. It sucks because Nissan never took care of this even 4 years after original production, but in the bottom-line scope: if you did your research on this car, this is like the first thing you'd expect; and by nature, it could happen at any time. |

You would be bettter off with an aftermarket CSC. The factory one will just fail again and you're be wasting unnecessary money to get it fix. Lowering the tranny is no simple job and that alone depending on the shop will probably cost you around $400-500.

Appreciate the info. Spoke with local service guy this morning who's helping out. I'm out of my 3 year 36 by two months, but if they can find anything that might of "caused" the failure, apparently they can warranty it back under powertrain. My sales rep from the dealer I bought it from is also working with their service manager to try and take care of it at their shop as a customer service type thing.
I understand it's a short term fix, but I am planning on doing all new clutch, flywheel, aftermarket csc in 2 months. Just want to be able to enjoy the z till then. I'll post it up in the sticky as well so it's documented. |

Well...screw it. Gonna just do it all now. Haven't really researched which clutch / flywheel combo to go with, so what do you boys suggest?
Plan is new Master, ZSpeed CSC, and stainless lines. I'm going to be doing the Z-1 turbo kit (stage 1) later this year as well if that helps with which clutch / flywheel combo you guys suggest. Weekend driver, maybe occasional track car, but not going crazy if that makes sense. |
Call Joe at ZSpeed and explain to him your needs. He will set you up with a great kit at a great price. He's got an external slave kit now also, which you might consider over the HD CSC.

Little update.
Spoke with dealer I bought the car from to see if they would be willing to help the situation. Thinking maybe I buy the zspeed csc and they cover the labor or split it to put it in. Conversation with service advisor: Me: "Bought a 370z 4 weeks ago" *interrupted Him: "Get the extended warranty?" Me: "No I did not, but" *interrupted again Him: "Should of bought the extended warranty. I gotta go." *Click F*ck that dealer. |
Pretty much expected, sorry to say. My local dealers act oblivious to the CSC issues with this car. "Wha What I never heard of that" as they look at each other pretending it's news to them. I mean I live in a pretty populated area, I'm sure they've got their fair shares of Z's stopping by in the past 6 years.
Specialty shop > Dealer. I'm not going to rule out that there are legit good dealers out there, but in general, a lot of jobs are being taken up by less qualified candidates nowadays. I hate to be a ****, but there's a few guys I know who have their technical degrees...and I'd never let them touch my car. And I second getting in contact with Joe at ZSpeed. Buying from him period is pie, but if you're going for a full package you best double check on stock. Just went short on clutches when I got the SB Stage 2 package, and he had a direct shipment from SB arranged quickly so I could get going ASAP. If I wasn't so much in a rush to get things done on the only non-holiday weekday I'd have off (which goes hand-in-hand with my budget at the time), I would've inquired about other potential options and see what else he'd recommend. |
