at trans fluid level
can any body tell me if I can add at fluid to my 2016 370 nismo
trans , was adding a trans cooler ,disconnected a line last night and a bunch of fluid syponed out over night |
that is a good question, interested in replies

The thing is that, you don't know how much siphoned out so its a guessing game to add fluid. I would just go get a fluid change at the dealer for a couple hundred bucks.
The trans is temperamental when it doesn't have enough fluid and over filling will cause is to foam up. |
The FSM will have The Nissan Way to do it but, IIRC, it requires special equipment (CONSULT). I think I remember seeing a DIY on this site - if the site's search doesn't find it, try any big web search and add "site:the370z.com" to your search string.

Your answer is "NO" you cannot add it your self.. You must take it to the dealer here's why.
The dealer has to hook up the computer to the car and get the car to approximately 110F then they have a nifty little tool that they plug in to your transmission oil pan once they plug it in, it empty's any extra oil if none comes out then they will add oil and repeat till oil is drained out. Then and only then will they know for certain that the correct amount of trans oil in in the transmission. There is no dip stick only a special tool that is pre set to measure the oil level. I went through the same issue when I installed my trans cooler. Hope this helps.. |
There is no special tool, the oil pan sets the correct level once it is at the correct temp you remove the level check plug and let the excess drain out.

OP, all you need is a way to check the transmission temperature. The trans fluid will expand as it is heated. Once it reaches the proper temp, the fluid level should be even with the level check plug. Ideally you should fill it slightly more than full so that the excess drains out when it reaches temp. This way you know it's at the correct level. |
Good time to install a temp gauge for your trans & then you can do the fluid changes yourself in the future ;)

so any engineers want to chime in on thoughts of the difference of capacity on the AT between say 100 and 110. The reason I ask is that here in the midwest it commonly hits 100 in the summer, so if the car sits in this temp and the trans surface temp is 100, how close would one be to the actual mark

180$ at Nissan gives you peace of mind at least.

My local Stealership charges $250. for Trans fluid replacement!
EEEEK!!! |
I have called a few dealers (nissan & infiniti) about AT transmission service. You really have to ask what is being done because some just drain and fill which takes about 4 quarts and other actually flush out all the old fluid.
The drain/fill usually costs about $180 and the other a lot more like $300 to $400. |
