Clutch Pedal on the Floor
Hey everyone,
New to the page. Picked up a 40th anniversary for my wife a few weeks back and we absolutely love it. Currently it has 17,9XX miles on it. So pretty low. Anyhow, my wife told me to drive her Z to work today because 2 days ago she was driving it and the clutch pedal kept staying at the floor when she was pushing the clutch in to change gears. She drove it yesterday and all functioned perfectly fine. I drove it to work this morning, I did both smooth and lower rpm shifts as well as higher rpm faster shifts just to see if I could find a spot where it would force the clutch to reproduce the same symptoms and I got nothing. I know the CSC is the big weak link with these cars and it is possible that even at less than 18,000 miles the trans may need to be pulled, but any other ideas? I am considering ordering a stainless line from Z1 and flushing the clutch fluid with some brand new amsoil dot3 fluid. And yes I read countless and countless threads on this issue being anywhere from the CSC, to a line replacement, to the CMC. :deadhorse: Thanks, Chris |

Bleeding it may limp it along, but you're looking at either the csc or master. Look at the fluid. If it's dark, it's the csc.

Quite annoying at such low miles I will need to drop the trans (if its the CSC). I am also hoping I can diagnose it prior to the fluid leaking and contaminating the clutch. No reason to replace the clutch at such low miles. |

That's not low miles for a csc failure. Plenty of people here have had it with less than 5k miles. One guy had it fail on the test drive of a new one.
If the csc needs to be replaced, so does the master. There are HD versions of both available. Swapping out the flywheel to a lighter one piece one is a major upgrade, and it'll never be cheaper to do than while the trans is out.

https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-pro...it-p-7340.html This guy? And I assume the OE clutch is fine If I need to replace it as well? We have no intentions to ever mod her Z besides maybe a catback or intakes. Thanks |

That setup requires frequent adjustment. Call Joe at ZSpeed for the CSC and flywheel. RJM has the master. The OE clutch will be fine unless it gets soaked in fluid.

Joe at Z Speed has a new version of the HD CSC that puts the hydraulics outside the tranny. It requires that the transmission be removed on the initial install, but thereafter if things fail, the parts are external and can be replaced easily. It may be worth checking out. I agree with Chuck that RJM has a HD CMC that is an upgrade to the stock CMC. Both Joe at Z Speed and Ryan at RJM are great to deal with. Give them a shout … they'll provide lots of useful advice.

Definitely not what I was hoping to hear.
Had the car a month, and with 17k miles I did not think I would have to replace anything outside of maintenance for years. Just called my local Nissan dealer to ask about if it would be covered under warranty (which it wont because it is a 2010), and then I will call Nissan usa and see if I can possibly get someone to allow it to be covered even though it is past the 5 year warranty. |

If it ever failed again, the external is easier to replace. If you're using the OEM clutch, the chance of a HD CSC failure is almost nil.

Ok cool. Well I'd assume based off of fluid level and a basic inspection I should be able to tell how bad it's leaking. Maybe I caught it quickly enough that the clutch is still okay.
Wasn't prepared right after buying the vehicle to need to drop over a grand in parts. Absolutely ridiculous. |

Maybe. You never know if it was having problems before and the dealer just bled the system so it would last long enough to get the car sold.

Called Nissan of USA just for giggles.
The guy told me I wasn't under warranty anymore, which I knew, but I asked him how it is Nissan is okay with a low wear item wearing at an extremely high wear rate. And he said I could take it to a dealer and have them diagnose it then NOA would decide if they would cover it. Which it is likely they won't and then I am stuck with the dealer charges. I guess I am going to order the Zspeed HD CSC and hope the clutch is fine until I drop the trans and can inspect it. |

Order a new master as well. They're single-use items.

Any real reason for the upgraded MC? I am okay with just the OEM one unless it literally won't work with the HD unit due to some sort of pressure issue. At least I do not have to drop the transmission to change the MC if it were to fail at some point.
