2009 370Z - Broken Fuel Pump
Just wanted to post this in case anyone else starts running into problems. As when i was searching and reading through potential problems here as i tried to start my car and wait for the tow truck i gave my car cancer and thought it was going to die.
I have a 2009 370Z with just under 35k miles. Well my car left me stranded wouldn't start but my fuel gauge read 1/2 a tank. I noticed in the morning the car was stuttering during acceleration and thought it was the VDC kicking in or I hit the redline accidentally and I just ignored it. That was only sign of issues i had. I made a few stops and eventually the last one my car wouldn't start. After about 20 minutes of trying to start my car in 100 degree heat i gave up and called a tow truck. Went to the dealership and what do you know the damn car starts the first time they try. They said they would keep it overnight and try again in the morning. First thing in the morning the car wouldn't start for them either. Turns out my fuel pump was completely broken in half and hanging in an empty gas tank. The tech said he's never seen a fuel pump broken like this and can't figure out how it happened. I'm guessing i had a bad one all along but since i hardly drive my car it took 7 years and 35k miles for it to finally present itself. Anyhow hopefully my story might help some of you that might come across the same problem. |
OK I am having the exact same symptoms. Started this morning.
Same stutter, but at about 4500 rpm. Although mine flashed the VDC, I knew there was no way I was losing traction. After stutter no more prob. Same 1/2 tank when I know there is only 1/4 left in tank. Odd thing is I heard a clunk from the behind me somewhere. I thought maybe I hit popped a rock up or something, it was a little dark this morning. maybe that was the pump smacking the tank. UGGGGHHHH She drove home with no prob, but I am thinking she is gonna sit and rest for a few days after reading your post. GRRRRRRR 2011 with 44500 on odometer. I was looking for just the sending unit after looking though posts figured that might be the prob, but know I am thinking. Sending unit $130 from dealer I did find a fuel pump for $250.00 from Allied auto parts. Guess I will buy the fuel pump and if it is just the sending unit I will take the pump back and buy the sending unit. Gonna be a long Saturday. Will update with what I find. |

Here's your solution, it's happened to like 5 people on here in the past week or two. See imgur link in this post for how I 'permanently' fixed it.

It was an old idea from way back then, I think possibly discussed in one of the RRP pump threads, but was deemed (at least by me) not worth the added expense/cost to consumer when the product was already a bit expensive. But, if it turns out that there is an independent need for the product, then I better just make it. It will also pair up well for those who want to use the Z1 starvation kit.. My tank flange will give them a clean way to provide additional wiring for the new pump, rather than having to splice into the already burdened factory pump wire. |

I second this. Think it could be up and done by October?

I just need to finish running the parts through that it is already cutting, and then make some changes to the program. Ill have something as early as tomorrow, as late as a few days, I think. |
