370z Fail Safe Mod - MAF error? - Help!
EDIT - SOLVED:
There was an issue with the throttle bodies. I had them replaced. 2014 370z Nismo MT My car has been recently having issues where it will go into fail safe mode, dropping the RPM's low and limiting the acceleration. The codes were relating the problem to a faulty MAF sensor and originally I had thought it was due to my K&N drop in filters. I took those out, replaced both MAF sensors, and even had the main control unit recoded during service. The problem went away for a couple of weeks, but it is back again. It tends to happen more frequently right in the morning on a cold start. As I exit my apartment complex, and switch from 1st gear to 2nd, the car just ***** itself and goes into fail safe mode. I have to pull the car to the side, turn the car off, and then turn it back on after 10-15 seconds until the problem goes away... However, it seems to be happening more and more frequently. It has happened every morning this week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). I went to Nissan to pull the codes again and I got the following: DTC REsults Code: 2096 [P2096] TIME: 9 Code: 2098 [P2098] TIME: 0 Code: (TBD)AF B2 [P010B] TIME: 1t The first two codes (2096 and 2098) should be catalytic converter codes (I took my cats out over a year ago) so I don't think this could affect it because it never did in the past couple years that I've had this car The last code (P010B) seems to be the MAF sensor again.. however as I mentioned before.. i already had the MAF sensors replaced.. so I believe there is something else that is affecting the MAF causing this issue. If anyone has any idea please let me know :( Nissan told me they would need to hold onto my car for a few days to try and diagnose the problem further at this point.. however they won't give me a rental in return because i voided my "warranty" which is BS.. the only mods i have is changed exhaust.. no engine mods. only exterior mods & exhaust/test pipes. let me know! Also that's a bank 2 only code so if you replaced both MAF sensors then I would be looking at MAF data bank 1 vs bank two (gms and voltages). Possible pin fit issue or wiring issue in bank to MAF circuit.

I agree with the wiring issue could be the problem. Your cars going into limp mode because of the MAF sensor code, not the Cats code (if you already didn't know that).\
Also, oiled K and N's have been known to destroy MAF sensor. Never had any issues with mine but it seems to be a pretty common problem. |

That said as a journeyman level tech for 12 years I have seen countless cars with MAF sensor issues from k&n filter (that don't cause MAF sensor issues, sarcasm). That's why I went AEM dry filter for my stillen gen3. Indie labs also show better filtering so why deal with the hastle of outdated oiled filters for nothing. |

Contact cleaner. Visual inspect female terminals (even better to do a drag test if you can find the male terminal somewhere), dielectric grease to prevent further issues. Back probe to check for 5v ref at MAF, back probe for ground, back probe on sig and check/record the voltage in histograph looking for any drop outs, also check freeze data from code set to see what values were vs MAF 1 when code set.

Replace the intake to stock and take it to a different dealer. They don't have to prove your mods caused the issue, they just have to prove your mods have ANY impact on the issue. The MAF code is why you are in limp mode.
The exhaust will not cause this and as such has zero impact on your limp mode or MAF code. |
