Exhaust Hiss - Honest Thought ?!
Hey guys!
I had a 350z with OBX resonated test pipes and an HKS rep exhaust. For the money sounded unreal. Sold the car to my brother and bought a 2016 370z. Thought "why not get the same setup" so i did. Install went great. Getting that notorious "hiss" on decel from about 3000-2000rpm. Sounds cheap. Ive seen a ton of soundclips and it seems depending on which application varies how prominent the "hiss" is. I was thinking of starting by going to Stillen HFC seeing as though the resonance is generated from the cats and basically vibrates down into the Y pipe. Can anyone weigh in on their thoughts or provide advice. Not ideal to spend 800$ on HFC but i want this hiss atleast cut in half for noise otherwise ill be forced to re install the stock cats :( |
Welcome to the infamous VQ hiss. Some people like it  and some don't :ugh2:

I'm running the FI CBE with resonated test pipes and I have it. Yeah, it's normal. Oh well.

I run Stillen HFCs and the hiss is pretty noticeable. Even with resonated mid-pipes.

On my G37 I got rid of the hiss with FI RHFC's and a Motordyne XYZ Y-pipe. At first I attributed conquering the hiss to the resonator section of the Motordyne, but when I replaced the resonator with the open section the hiss was still gone.

FI RHFC will definitely cut down the hiss but I don't think it will eliminate it completely.

I've done motoreyne art pipes + fast intentions stainless steel 18" resonators exhaust and now fast intentions double resonated test pipes + fast intentions exhaust. Hiss was there with both setups.
|
I'm not a fan of the hiss so I've kept my cats stock for now to go along with my F.I. setup. You won't get the hiss keeping the stock cats.
