Shifting into first while moving is not that big of a deal ... if done properly.

Match engine speed to road speed and you can shift how ever you like.:hello:

Not sure how smooth it is on a z as I haven't driven the manual but what you say is true in theory just in other cars I have driven it seems 1st is always very picky about matching the engine speed perfectly vs the other gears. Really it doesn't seem worth it. Not like these cars don't have enough power to resume accel from 2nd.

I always downshift to first at traffic lights that are ALMOST green...never had any issues with grinding :wtf2:

Its worth it when you're on autox and want the power right away verses waiting for 3500 to roll around. Practice makes perfect but you gotta pay to play and keep the fluids fresh. I used to rev match 1st up to 4500ish. Takes some foot work but it sure is a blast. I miss my Z dearly but opportunity has created the need for a truck so I will return to the Z platform one day. As you can see I'm still addicted to the forums because I love the car so much :)

I'm not gonna gunk up the topic so OP, enjoy! :driving:

same here and never any issues downshifting to first at low speed. you can also double clutch to ensure a smoother downshift.

Does 1st gear in our 370z even have a sychro? I believe most manual transmissions do not have a synchronized 1st gear.

You'd have to go back a few years to find a transmission without synchros on all forward gears. Or one without an overdrive gear (or two).

I'll be alright. Just don't do it often.

Mine does. And it matches. I down shift mine all the time from 20~25 mph into first. :driving:

To the OP. You just broke the tranny in a little quicker. :icon17: But I wouldn't make a habit out of it.
