Is this engine part normally VERY hot after driving?
I know this might sound rather weird, but im just a little concerned that after I drive my 370z for whatever amount of time, when i get her back home and in the garage, i usually pop the hood and let everything cool down (just habit) and i always notice the part circled in red in the picture are always very hot to the touch... is this normal? what exactly is behind that aluminum cover.... do those have something to do with the variable valve timing? Also note, that picture came from google, THAT IS NOT MY ENGINE... just using it for an example of the part im taking about.. thanks

so you're asking why the engine block is hot after driving it for awhile.............
:wtf2: |
Oil operating temp is over 200.... laws of thermodynamics will say heat will transfer to things around it so 200 is a fair guess for a lot of things touching the engine block.

Never checked or thought about it, but I dont think I would be alarmed by anything under 250F.
