AT shift points and redline?
I have a 2015 nismo with the AT. Is it normal for these cars to redline or almost redline before shifting when under full acceleration? Seems to me the shift point would be before it gets there. I'm new to these cars so any info. is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, because if you want to accelerate as quickly as possible, it's faster to shift as late as possible.

Seems perfectly normal to me. What's the point of redline if the RPMs don't reach it at the top of a gear when going WOT?

If my car didn't reach redline before it shifted I'd be pissed... :driving:

also another thing to note, when you redline shift your next gear will be at a higher RPM which should 'hopefully' be at a better position on your hp curve line. |
Thanks. I just wanted to be sure it was normal. I'm likely just being paranoid and overthinking everything.

what other cars have you owned/driven that do not do this under full acceleration?
Your Titan didn't do that? |
I would try to keep them from hitting the redline. When the revs would start to get close I would usually work the pedal a bit so that it would shift before redlining. If I try to do that with the Z, it wants to keep going in the current gear and not upshift. I used the paddle to make it upshift a few times because the warning light would flash and that worried me. I don't want to cause any damage. Look, I apologize if my questions are stupid, novice, etc. but like I said before, I'm new to these cars and just wanted to be sure. I love this car, have always been a Nissan guy. I've owned over 20 Nissans but never a Z. To me this is a dream car and I thought I'd never get the chance to own one so now that I do, I want to keep it nice and not mess it up. Thanks for your input and info. I feel better knowing that it's normal.

2015 7AT checking in. I did some testing because this exact thing kept popping up when I was merging on a crappy designed highway on ramp. (GA I-16E to I-95N, srsly wtf)
If you get nervous and feather the gas it will hang at high rpms. Don't let off till it shifts. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |
