What is ECU reset used for?
 

I know this is probably a NUB question but googling does not give me the answer, only how to do it.

What is the ECU reset used for on a 370Z?

I also came across a thread about throttle reset or something like that, what is this used for?

Smartphone + Bluetooth OBDII Reader (OBDLink MX Bluetooth) + Torque or similar app is what I use.

(Figured I would be as useful as the previous post) :D

It returns the ECM to the same state as it came from the factory. Similar to re-installing the OS on your computer. Used to get rid of any glitches that may have embedded themselves in memory.

I didn't understand most of this. But ok, I might reset my ECU after my service next week.

How does one reset the ECU? Disconnect the battery? CTRL - ALT - BEEP?

I can't disconnect my battery atm. I have a guardian interlock device installed on my car. Not sure if they have this or anything similar in the US. Basically a small breathalyzer device that is wired to the engine which tests your BAC level before the engine can be switched 'on'.

BAC must be below 0.02 for it to register, and disconnecting the battery records a violation and the law will be on my ***.

I would have to do ECU reset the other method I found a youtube guide on.
