Engine oil catch cans?? **UPDATED** see my last post
 

I keep hearing about people installing these engine oil catch cans, does this motor burn oil that bad that this mod needs to be done? I did install a catch can in my 2000 Z28 way back 13 years but the LS1 motor was notorious for being an oil burner.. If this is a needed mod to do, where can i purchase it at? Thanks

Vacuum lines go from the crank case to the intake manifold. It will help keep crank case oil out of there but that's about it.

Where have you read that people run catch cans on these cars? I've heard about it for the boosted folks but for a normal N/A car, I really doubt you'd benefit from running one.

its beneficial for a NA car and a boosted car.

During normal operation of an internal combustion engine, there’s a compressed air and fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber that is ignited and as a result, forces the piston down. A small amount of that ignited mixture leaks past the piston rings and ends up in the crankcase. This leakage is often referred to as “blow-by” (leakage past the piston rings), as well as oil mist.
Some of the oil mist and other products settle along the engine intake and over time form a “gunk.” The oil catch can collects the oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors while allowing “cleaner” gases to be passed back into the intake.

It will keep your engine a lot cleaner.

I know what blow-by is. I'm just saying the cars are designed to run like that from the factory so I seriously doubt you will see any benefits from running one on a lightly modified Z. Money can be better spent elsewhere.

For a NA 370Z engine, a catch can is not really needed. As per EVOHUNTER's great explanation, it will help keep the insides a little cleaner, but that shouldn't be a problem with a NA DD.

But, if properly installed/maintained, it won't do any harm. Go for it if it will make you feel better.

Not everything from the factory is good as is (fuel tank, CSC, steering wheel lock), you are right there is little benefit to it but it can help keep things like TBs and other parts of the intake cleaner and less loss of power over time. 500 is worth it for a show car, but really one can just get a generic catch can system and mount it somewhere, there should be a DIY if you google search. They are "cheap" and easy to install.

Our engines have two oil/air separator from the factory. They are located above the valve cover and connect the valve cover to the intake.

An aftermarket catch can will have a small benefit of keeping the throttle bodies a little cleaner, BUT they still will need to be cleaned.

Keep in mind: if not installed properly they can introduce an un-metered air leak.

guys, i know what a setup like this does, and i understand a pcv system.. I do not want to come off sounding cocky by any means, but can someone point me in the direction of buying a setup or does one not exist as a "kit"... i appreciate y'all

Where did I say you didn't know what blow by is? smh.

Only posting to help others understand what it does, and how its beneficial.

My z06 was stock, I had problems with the runners building up with crap, catch can solved this, its all over the z06 forums. Just because it was designed from the factory doesn't always mean its always the best.



theres not really a kit beside AAM, just buy 2 mishimotos, they have Lifetime warranty if they leak.

little update... I reached out to Saikou michi and i have their custom made to order dual tank setup coming. Pretty happy about this purchase. Wasnt to expensive, will be very benificial, and will have a nice appearance when hood is open as i ordered them with red powder coating with white labels! Said it will be here in 7 weeks, as they are seemingly very busy this time of year, at least that is what i was told. Here is a pic of what their dual setup will look like..
