Is this normal?
Just wondering if it is normal for the REVS to jump high and the car not move anywhere when you try to floor it in the D (Auto) gear on a 7sp Auto? The Revs will jump high and the engine will roar but not actually move anywhere for atleast 0.5-1second.
This happens almost always in D gear if I try to floor it, but it doesn't in Manual mode and takes off normally in manual. Are we not suppose to floor it in D (Auto) gear, or could there be an issue with my Zed? I have a 15' 370Z. Sorry if this is a noob question, I am pretty noob with cars. |
I think, it's the auto computer not being able to keep up with your demands. Usually this is one of the major reasons why people get manual cars. The response time is far better, you're always in control, you save gas, fixing is cheaper, they accelerate better and you can push them to higher RPMs and they genuinely last longer (depending on driving style). My step mom had the same problem with her dodge nitro and I also experienced it with another auto car that I drove.
Basically as you're going and want to suddenly punch it, it's as if instead of downshifting it stays on neutral instead for like a split second and your RPMs shoot up... Then the gear kicks in and it's back to normal, Correct? But it's a major buzz kill if you want to pass someone or suddenly take off... Yeah it's normal, at least in my experience, I guess it's the computer trying to protect your tranny... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Throttle lag from your ECU. Get it tuned and it's gone.

doesnt dat have to do with the torque converter stall speed?

7sp auto has it Anyways, this lag delay and loss of power in D kind of sux. Today there was an R33 Skyline that crept up behind me and then flaw'd it infront of me, and I thought I will kill him until I dropped it on this D gear and my revs just flew. I was like damn, I am suppose to be in manual mode :( Now that driver of that R33 thinks he killed me ;( Kind of off topic, but do you guys rekon I should paint the stock Ray's Engineering rims black on my 15' Z or keep them with original shadow chrome? I seem to be witnessing a lot of Z owners here in Aus colour their stock Z rims black, it does seem to bring out a more mean appeal. When I ask my friends here, they say nahh don't do that keep them original. What do you guys think? |

hmm i've had autos, but i noticed if it's from a stop then it's fine, but when you're rolling it's just the lagg time for it to figure out that you're flooring it and it needs to down shift, rather than stay at a higher gear to for cruising
