Dealer wants 7k to fix!!

I've had this check engine light issue for months now. It is for multiple cylinder misfire. Dealership has had no luck pinpointing the issue until today.
I was just informed that I have a blown head gasket. Also was informed that the clutch needs to be replaced. I'm at 100K miles. Now the part I'm having a hard time swallowing is the $7000.00 that the dealership wants to fix the car.:gtfo2:
Does that sound right to anyone. That is A big F****N smack upside the head.
I'm looking for some guidance here. What would you do??????

Sounds like a dealership..

They want $120 to do an oil change around here..

Warranty? if not take it to a separate shop, someone from the family or friends who have had good work and multiple situations serviced by a single shop

I'm certainly no expert, but that seems ridiculous. I think the clutch is 7-8 hour job and the head gasket job maybe double that? Subtract parts (maybe $1000?) and you get a stupid ridiculous hourly labor rate. Typical mechanic labor rates are going to range from $80-120 per hour depending on the location. Even with $1500 in parts in your scenario the dealer is still charging a whopping $230/hr.

I would tell them to :gtfo2:

The dealer maybe factoring in that it may need to replace the heads.

Hit up Tony from FI and see if he can find you someone who's a lot more reasonable since your close to him.

Pls share what dealership did you take it to? Consider taking your car to either Precison Z or Specialty Z both of which are close by. Good luck. You will have to pay them for the diagnosis but secure a copy of it when you pay. You can then have it validated by guys who actually knows what they're doing. At that price it's a motor and tranny replacement.

The car is at Valencia Nissan right now. I haven't had them tear into it. My service guy is a friend, and I haven't been in to talk to him since he call this morning. I thought that price was way out of line. Hell, if that is the price, I doubt I'd even fix it.

MagmaRed370z 02-11-2016 08:37 PM

They are overcharging you like hell. That job is worth a max of $4,500 MAX!

I figured.

I only go there for crush washers when I do my oil change. They rip. Go elsewhere like I said.

it will be cheaper to drop a brand new engine and an aftermarket clutch.

like any other contractor regardless of trade..sometimes they dont want to get involved and bid HIGH hoping they dont get it

The hg on these things sucks balls to replace the cradle has to get dropped, the vvel actuators need to come off meaning f'ing reseting them when the go back on and per the fsm the dealer has to replace both actuators and sensors, the whole damn thing has to get ripped down to the short block to do it too. It really sucks balls but even then its no 7k dollar job. It took me about 30hours to do not including sending the heads out and having them milled for $150

Edit: also i had a dealer replace my short block in 2010 or 2011 and years later in 2014 i found out i was down 11 hp because they incoorectly reset the vvel actuators

ENGINE for 2013 Nissan 370Z|10102-JL3MA

Complete brand new engine, $5910. You could probably find someone to swap it in for under $500. Get a new clutch with the money saved.
