New engine or Engine restore?
I lurked a little and couldn't find the thread regarding this choice I apologize if this topic has been brought up before, which I'm sure it has. I would t mind being linked in the right direction of course :p. Thank you!
So here it is. My engine is a couple miles away from hitting 111,500 miles. Along with my power train, transmission, and differential. I recently did a 6 puck XTD clutch kit swap (big mistake I know) and its holding out ok though it's got some squeeking on engagement. I am going to reswap the clutch for sure. However I was wondering about my other components? Would it be Hester to look for a newer engine or just have the one I have rebuilt? What if I restore my engine and bore out some 4.0L pistons? Anyone else do this yet? Results? Recs? Anything and everything helps except for Cristisism that just makes people feel bad and doesn't get anyone anywhere so be kind on this thread haha :) thanks ahead of time! |
Why would you do anything to the motor if you don't have any problems? There are members here with twice the mileage with zero issues. Get a compression test, a leakdown test and an oil analysis. If those come back clean, don't worry about it.

Is there anything wrong with the motor? I'm curious as to why you would think it would need to be rebuilt. 90ST on here has like 250,000 on his Z and it's still trucking along.

Now as far as boring it out to a 4.0L, if you're not going forced induction, it's kind of a waste for the cost if you're not boosted. And from what I've read, even the guys running 10 to 13 PSI of boost are still on stock internals and they are getting between 600 to 700 RWHP. But I have a BSME, so I'd consider forged internals for longevity/fatigue when boosted to those numbers, but that could always be done at a later date. In fact, i'm not sure if there are many companies still around that provide a 4.0L kit. I know Brian Crower still has a kit, but it's at 4.34L which is what I plan on doing in the long run :happydance: |
Awe all you guys are awesome! So then in reality it's a waste/unneeded? I was starting to worry about the miles though I've heard these cars go for a while before anything needs to be done haha. Ok, so there's no oil leaks anywhere and the engine runs good it only has a little clicking like noise which I'm assuming are the valves? Other than that I'm worried about my tranny.
Every time I shift there's a squeeking especially on take off. Sometimes, rarely, when I'm going fast and do quick shifts it sounds like something is getting hit in the back of the car I'm guessing it could be the diff. Anyone have this experience before? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
