Default hypothetical engine swap question

Forums and threads are devoted to swapping V8s into various sports cars including the Z. Most are Chevy (not my cup of tea) crate engines. I was wondering if any of the Infiniti V8's and transmissions might swap into a Z? Yes, I understand it may put out less power (minus mods like turbos/superchargers) than the Chevy. But, if someone wanted to stay within the product family, would this even be possible? Thanks

Yep, its possible. Chris Forsberg has a vk56 in his 370z. Its a big motor, but you can make it fit with enough money lol. Most people will just swap in the LS due to the massive aftermarket for it and the ease of acquiring parts. Personally I like the idea of a Nissan motor in a Z though.

The Lexus V8 would be sweet (the one in the IS F & RC F)

The VK56 will work but it will require a lot more massaging to get it in and its too heavy for a 370Z IMO

Default Hey thanks everyone

Great advice and observations. The part about its weight is definitely a problem. Other options are a 370Z motor with the Stillen supercharger. I thought it would be kind of fun to stay with Nissan and supercharger an infiniti motor. Not for my daily driver. The LS approach is just too common for me plus, (my bias showing) I grew up with 340s, 440s, 360s, and so forth. Just couldn't get myself to go LS. I do have a bare 318 block though....
I know, people ask how can I be into Mopars and Z's. I am. I had 6 Rx7s and 2 Zs so far. I love the sports cars the most but I like muscle cars too.

Mopar or no car. Best bet would to use one of the 3G Hemi's. They're lighter. This is the one I want to stuff into my PowerWagon.

Well it is only 50 lbs heavier its really not that bad most turbo kits add more weight than the vk. the one thats going in my 260z is down to around 420lbs assembled. its definitely more cost wise than the ls. the toyota lexus v8s are much heavier also. the vk56 actually weighs less than the vk45. also remember the vq37 is about 40-50lbs heavier than the vq35hr.

edit: the 420lbs on my motor includes the vortech supercharger and brackets

(i get the weight for the 1uz at 480lbs full dress)

The VK56 (Or 45 non VVEL) Will work in these cars, we have been itching to build a "street car" version of Forsbergs car for years. The secondary firewall needs to be removed. As for power, with a good build and some cams you can see 400 to the wheels with one of these pretty easily.

If this is something you would be interested in moving forward with, we would love to work with you on it!

As for weight:
Fully dressed VK56 433lbs
Fully dressed LS3 418lbs
Fully dressed VQ37VHR 360lbs (about)

Default Great plan

When I put together the money, I want to find a 370Z minus drive train and start from there. I was thinking, the Infiniti V8, sorry, I don't remember all the numerical classifications, I am writing this in the dark (I'm a teacher ha ha) with that build and maybe, down the road, a supercharger. I am not an LS fan. It's like rooting for the Yankees, takes no imagination.

My "forced" retirement are going to slow my plans down but, I am almost done with the shell of my 68 Barracuda. It had a slant six and a built 360 will replace that. I have a 413 Wedge, once it's built, for my 66 Sport Fury and a 440 is going in to my 68 Charger. I have the cars and motors. All need rebuilt. The Charger is from Missouri so it has the most rust problems. The Barracuda had almost none. I removed the entire front and rear suspension, and all parts, until there was nothing under the Barracuda, not even the gas tank, but me and some spiders. I sanded down the entire underside, by hand or hand tools, and then primed, painted, and clear coated it, stem to stern. Never did this before.

I'm looking at retirement May 1st. I had Ed Hamburger built 440 stuffed into a '73 Dodge Dart Sport back in the day. And a '70 Duster with a 340. My brother had a '66 Cuda with the 273 Hipo Pack, a '68 Hemi RoadRunner, and a '70 440 6 Six Pack SuperBee. My dad had a 413 CrossRam Belvedere, and a '64 PowerWagon. I was a kid just out of diapers when my dad had those. My mom had a '67 Sport Fury with a 440. Mopar runs deep in the family. If I had those cars now. I would be on Easy Street.

These cars render you the Master. With my paltry collection, I am not worthy...Ed Hamburger! Wow, you have had all the good stuff. A friend of mine has a 73 Duster with a race 440 that is scary. I sold my 68 Satellite to him and he is building a Road Runner. I still have 2 383 blocks, 2 440 engines, the 413 block (a 65) 1 360 and 1 318. I plan to leave the slant six in my 66 Valiant convertible 3 on a tree. Great cars. One of my favorite was a lowly but slightly built 66 Valiant with a 273 4-barrel. An acquaintance who had it before me raced Ford 289s and Chivvy 283s and never lost.

My brother is 11 years older then me. So growing up, it was easy to get those cars. If only I knew back then, what those cars would be worth now. I would have hung on to them along with the 2 '78 Trans Am's that I owned. I let slip through my fingers a ex Sox&Martin '70 Hemi RoadRunner and a '70 Cuda SixPack. My so called buddy (jerk) bought the RoadRunner out from under me. I haven't spoken to him since. That's been 35 years now. I was 15 minutes late to buy the Cuda.

I was going to buy a '06 Viper ACR in Dec '11. A woman owned it. Her husband had past away 18 months earlier. It was sitting in her basement covered with a sheet. It was like brand new. Had 6,000 miles on it. Has the deal set over the phone. I showed up at the house with bank check in hand. She lets me in, and we go to the basement to look the car over. I hand her the check. She hands it back to me, and says she wants $15,000 more. She said that she talked to her friend the night before and said that she should ask for more. I turned around and walked out. Didn't say a word. On the way home. I spotted the Nimso at a dealership. Stopped in and took it for a test drive. Got back to the dealership. Said I've give you this much. They said sold. So that's how I ended up this my Nimso. Been happy with it even since.
