Default Gears don't engage

Here's my issue: I was driving fairly mildly for most of the day. Came to a stop light, and once it turned green shifted into first, accelerated, shifted into second accelerated and heard a popping sound. Car began to rev as if I was in neutral. I thought that maybe I didn't get it into gear so put it in second again and same thing. Now with the car running I can put it into any gear and it'll stay on...like I'm in neutral.

I want to say it's linkage that may have broken but I'm not sure. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks guys and gals.

I'm thinking linkage, too. If you can put it in gear, let out the clutch and the car doesn't stall then it's not actually in gear and the linkage would likely be the problem.

I agree, it sounds like a broken linkage somewhere, but it could be something else in the drivetrain.

Sounds like a clutch/CSC problem to me.

You should be able to feel it going into gear as you shift. If the stick feels "soft" you may have a shifter problem.

I suggest getting a buddy that is familiar with manual transmissions to give it a look.

Pretty sure I've pin pointed the issue. Scoured the Internet to find someone with the same scenario as me. Found one. His ended up being the axle not being completely connected to the differential. I checked mine...nail on the head. Now my issue is figuring out why it won't stay locked in place. I have an aftermarket quaife differential....and the components going into it are OEM.... Could that be it?

CSC or master cylinder.

I tell you right now, if your axle wasn't seated right, it would grind to the moon and back. all the time.

Depending on which Quafie you have you may need different axles. Check it out.

I'm pretty sure it's the piece that enters the differential. I can physically see it's not in all the way. On top of that...with the car running and the back end jacked up one wheel turns in neutral and the other doesn't. In that respect if that part isn't fully seated, I believe the car would then act as if it was utilizing an open differential, supplying power to the wheel with the least traction. Seeing as how one of the wheels isn't "attached" it would supply the power there, thus the car not moving.
