Rattling sound coming from engine?

Hey guys,

Saturday night I was driving my car the other night and heard some knocking from the front of the car at about 60 mph (usually I drive with music on and pretty loud because of all the road noise the Z takes in). First thing I thought was "@#$% rod knocking! I pulled over checked my oil and it was half way between low and high on the dipstick. Don't know how accurate that was since the car had just been running. So I went to Walmart and bought a qt of oil just in case, and added it. I drove home for about an hour hoping nothing would happen. I've been driving the car sense then and nothing but a faint/progressively louder jingling noise now at about 80mph+
Can't really tell if it makes that noise at high RPMs since the exhaust is too loud to hear the rattle.

Anyone know what it might be?

Really don't want to take it to my dealer. Have had bad experiences with them, and this is the last car I buy off that lot.

Year: 2014
Mileage: 38K

Give South Bay Datsun a call. It's a little bit of a drive from San Marcos but they used to handle a lot of 300ZX stuff for some of my buddies and where out of this world. I have no experience with them on 370Z stuff, but they won't lie to you if they are uncomfortable with it as well. They also used to help me track down hard to find roadster parts when doing some resto stuff.

There is about 1 quart/liter between the high and low marks. If you added the full quart, you are now about a half quart over filled.

That could be a lot of things. Find someone that know a bit about cars/engines and ask them to listen to it.

You can pinpoint the source of the sound by holding one end of a paper towel tube, piece of garden hose, &c to your ear and moving the free end around the engine compartment until the noise is the loudest. Be VERY careful when doing this as there are moving, hot, and hot moving parts under the hood.

Edit: If you can't hear the noise when parked and revving the engine, it's probably something small rattling around in the breeze, eg, brake shield.
