Just curious, what kind of oil does Nissan use in a new engine??
I was at the dealership today to inquire as to what kind of oil I should use on my 2016 Z on its first oil change.Of course they want me to have them install the Nissan Ester oil at $200 + tax,I declined.I did ask the fellow what kind of oil the car comes with from the factory and he said the same Nissan Ester oil?Is this true,I was under the impression the car comes from the factory with some kind of non-synthetic oil designed for engine break-in?Not trying to turn this into a "which oil is best" thread, just curios as to what kind of oil comes from the factory with the car.I did end up purchasing a couple cases of Red Line 5w-30 for a good deal.

You can buy either 5qt. Redline and filter/crush washer or 5qt. Nissan Ester oil and filter/crush washer from z1motorsports.com for around $60. What I learned is whether you use a synthetic or conventional oil, when you shut the car off it is like holding a piece of paper against a fridge and you pull your hand away it falls, much like the oil in your engine. An ester oil acts more like a magnet and clings to everything in your engine, working better in this sense for your VVEL system. I will try to find the article I found explaining this. People have been using esters for years in jet engines and compressors. Nissan Genuine Ester oil is still synthesized in process but only contains mineral and vegetable oil, and also animal fats.

Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer
I've been using that in every car/truck ive owned for 14 years now and never 1 single issue. I have not added this to my 2012 Z yet (as i just bought it) but i had Z1 do my 1st oil change and they did 5/30 redline and filter.... think i will add this lucas next oil change and roll on out!! |
Unless your changing your oil less then once a year you don't really need a stabilizer.

IIRC, I read something about this on Nissan's web site. I think it said Zs are shipped with "regular" oil in them and not special break-in oil. It's been years ago, so I can't swear to it.
