Messed up with gas

So I accidentally added 4 gallons of 85 octane then notice and stopped finishes with 91 octane. Is that okay any damage to car? Should I drain has or anything

Trips 10-03-2015 02:54 PM

You'll be fine.

Just drive normal until your at half a tank and refill with 91.

Add some octane booster and forget about it.

:iagree:

Chuck33079 10-03-2015 05:31 PM

Octane booster doesn't help much. It will only raise the octane a few points. Either drive carefully for half a tank and top off with premium, or throw some Toluene in. That'll raise the octane. Just don't get any on your paint.

Greed 10-03-2015 06:39 PM

You WILL notice a big performance dropoff. All you can do is ride it out until next refill. Low octane won't hurt the car but the engine will let you know you're not going anywhere fast.

kenchan 10-03-2015 07:52 PM

Octane booster will only boost like 0.2 octane for the entire tank, no?

Pour in toulene like you mean it if you want.

POS VETT 10-03-2015 10:07 PM

Actually, put in some E85 which will effectively raise the octane rating; 2-4 gallons would do nicely.

Jsolo 10-03-2015 11:01 PM

Is El Paso TX a high elevation area? I'm surprised they're selling 85 octane if it's near sea level.

jwick 10-03-2015 11:45 PM

I've actually never heard of 85 octane

chuckie311 10-04-2015 12:23 AM

you will have 0 issues and not noticed a big difference i have put in 87 octane before on accident and didn't see any difference in performance and drove the car like i always do

Haha come to Colorado, that's all we use for the cheap stuff. 87, 91, 100 and E-85 are available. Wish we got 93 octane.

i wouldn't forget about it. next thing he WOT then hears a pop bang clank then a nice black cloud.

kidkotic2001 10-05-2015 08:40 AM

It was not 85 it was 86 I just miss-typed on my smartphone. I have not been able to tell the difference yet, I will just wait till half way and then fill up again. It was only 4 -5 gallons. I saw the price at Costco and I got excited $2.24.

lmao this has to be a trolling thread right? People are legit this worried about putting regular unleaded in their car vs premium?

Ive put regular in my pathfinder a number of times, and that car has 161k miles on the powerplant and Ive never had one issue.
