Need help on possible issues
So I have been having trouble with my Service Engine Soon Light coming on (herein referred to as SESL), It has always come up on the trouble code reader as the Bank 1 o2 Sensor Passenger side.
I have had the o2 sensor itself replaced twice at one place; replaced first time and then when the SESL came back on about a month and a half after the fix. I took it back and had the o2 sensor replaced again and the SESL came back on roughly 3 weeks after the 2nd fix. Both were OEM from what I was told When I was driving up an on-ramp to the 405 SB freeway the car felt completely fine, was going to shift from 3rd to 4th and the gas pedal compression was non existant. No revolutions were going, car didn't actually turn off and die until 30-45 seconds after the shift. The brake pedal locked up. Car had gas, and the temp gauge read roughly 220F. No leakage from under the car, coolant tanks full but from everything I understand right now, the car experienced Limp Mode. I'm guessing from the o2 sensor problem throwing bad signals to the ecu. No coolant released when the car got hot, and it limp moded. But doesn't explain the gauge (unless I am wrong, please correct if I am) Had the car towed to my body/paint shop since I wasn't covered on my tow to the other shop. After those two, and being at my body shop, of which I use for all my aftermarket part installs since learning they do service items too as well as the paint and body work. Had the o2 sensor replaced again, this time paid for it again because I did not want to nor have the time to get over to the other shop. (other shop was open 8-5 weekdays which is my work schedule; this new shop works 10:30-7:30 and works Saturdays too much easier for me) About half way home from having the o2 sensor replaced by the new shop the SESL went on again. Got home and texted my friend over at the shop and he said bring it back in tomorrow morning and they will look at it. Bank 1 o2 passenger side sensor again on the trouble code reader. I decided to play Russian roulette with my Z because since its my daily driver I cant really just leave it at the shop for hours and days. It was either leave it and let them fully test everything or switch the bank 1 driver and passenger o2sensors to see if it is really another fault o2 sensor was bought again, or if it is the circuit relay for the o2 sensor itself. 2 and a half days later the SESL comes back on again and I'm taking it by the shop tonight after work to have the trouble error code reader run to figure out what is up. There are 2 outcomes at this point for the reader: Bank 1 o2 Sensor Passenger side -meaning the circuit relay is the problem Bank 1 o2 Sensor Driver Side- meaning it is another faulty o2 sensor I've had another friend who knows the situation tell me that since my Nismo R-tune CAI and having my FI Carbon Fiber 18' Resonator exhaust installed I haven't retuned my ECU for the amount of air in-port and ex-port is not of what the ECU recognizes. So maybe an ECU tune would be able to help with the o2 sensors tripping. Just want feedback on what you guys think and if any other things could be wrong. Any and all is appreciated!!! :tiphat: |
O2 sensor sounds like a wiring problem. See FSM for schematics, connector pinouts, wiring routing, &c. A tune is pretty much required when modding both intake and exhaust.
The problem on the ramp may be fuel starvation if you were below a quarter tank or so and enjoying the lateral Gs. Lot's of threads on this site about this problem. |

I saw a couple different threads, but none were along the lines of mine scenario of events, so wanted to make sure it was in general the same idea of issue and that nothing else might be going wrong. |
Burned, catalistic converter?
Dunno y ur car whent to safe mode, could be a part of a much bigger problem. |
Sorry to hear man :( Hope you get it all worked out soon.
I am sending you a little something for your troubles :tiphat: Yes, it is finally going in the mail today :icon17: :o |
Well at this point, it's clearly not the O2 sensors.
I would definitely consider a tune and also have someone check the wiring for the O2 sensors, sometimes they can get damaged with aftermarket installs. It could even be a fault ECU, although unlikely. |
What is the actual code being thrown? I'm going to guess P2A00 since it doesn't come back immediately and requires drive time before coming back. Check for leaks in the intake piping after the MAF sensor and in the exhaust before the sensors.

Check for fouled spark plugs. Running the car with the codes being thrown will cause them to foul up. (At least in my experience.)
