Need help to Understand Catalytic Converter Vehical Emissions Info
1 Attachment(s)
Today I went to get my '09 Nismo smogged and it failed the visual inspection.
The only performance mods I have are the Stillen Gen 3 CAI and the Fast Intentions TXD catback with 18" resonators. I'm in CA so no test pipes, stock headers, Stock Cats are there. The mechanic points to the Vehical Emissions Control Info sticker (see attached image) under the hood and points to the "2 TWC(2)" and says that I've failed the inspection because the label denotes that there should be 4 cats on the car, but the exhaust mod has removed two and he only sees 2. I got kind of mad at him and tried to explain that no, the exhaust is a catback and there are only two cats on the car stock, but he just kept pointing to the sticker and saying how the (2) meant that there were 4 cats. Can anyone help me understand what the (2) in "TWC(2)" means and/or point me towards some documentation that would help me prove to this guy that the 370z only comes with 2 cats. I've been searching online all night and haven't come up with anything I can take back to them. Thanks. |
Guys confused But you can either try another smog shop or point him to the Factory Service Manual.
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/370Z/Coupe/2013/EX.pdf The manual is for 2009- 2014 http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-o...ce-manual.html TWC(2) are the Cats so there are only 2 NOT 4  Have him call the service dept at a local Nissan dealer to further convince him. |
He was just probably hating on ur car...on either how sexy it looked or how sweet it sounded. ...Either way it's a foul ball.....Hate it when that kinda stuffs happen ......
How long have u had the car? Is this the first time you've encountered this problem.....I would take Trips advice and just go to a another shop....If he's really hating and causing u the inconvenience why give them ur money for the Inspection....Take ur business else where....where someone knows what they're talking about..... |

Thanks everyone and the manuals will definitely come in handy for the future; thanks Trips.
I'll probably end up going to another shop just to make sure it gets done right. Still a part of me that feels like there's unfinished business with the first shop but I guess I'll just have to let it go... or at the least write a yelp review :stirthepot: |
Just move to TX. I have 0 cats (0) on my car and I have passed 3 inspections.

The guy is a #@%ing moron. Go somewhere else and let it go.

Which place? So we know never to go there...

Man. I need to stay away from Cali, lol!

The review will get the word out there that there shop sucks @$$ and will end up hitting them where it counts.....In their pockets....No Business = No $$$$ |
When living in Cali I found the shops who ran the test and filled out the visual inspection accordingly if it passed. Ask around one of the club guys will know one in your area.

HAHA sucks to be you bro, if he entered it in the system as a fail now you will have to go somewhere where they won't be a fucktard about knowing that both cat elements are combined(there are two different bricks inside each cat) and hope you don't actually fail because two fail will likely land you as a gross polluter then you get to do it every year until they decide to not send you the notice. Dudes idiocy may have F'd you and there isn't shiite you can do about it either.

I know this is probably out of your way but there's a member here who happen to own a testing station that could work with you to help you pass.
