is this csc failure ?
2012 nismo I dont track the car or beat on it
I was driving normally and all of a sudden the pedal engage point dropped and the pedal dosnt want to come up all the way . It actually sticks at times and I have to pull it up . It does this with the engine off also . It doesnt go to the floor but its definitly lower. I bought the car used and the prev owner advised that he had a clutch issue and had the lines flushed and upgraded to dot 5 Is this a csc issue and if so is it something I could fix or should I go to a local shop Hope its not a pressure plate Thanks |

Very likely it is the slave or master cylinder that has failed. A puddle of clutch fluid on the ground indicates a slave failure, although the leak can be entirely contained within the transmission bell housing. The master usually has internal seals that fail, so no leak will be present. Either one will introduce contaminants into the system, and you generally will find the fluid in the reservoir to be very dark/dirty (assuming it hasn't leaked out).

How do you know what color the fluid in the slave cylinder is? You have to drop the transmission to inspect the CSC. But if they're fixing it under warranty, you'll be fine until it craps out again I would ask them to put in an aftermarket CSC solution (obviously they won't warranty it). Some dealers are good about that stuff, but many won't touch aftermarket.
If they'll put Motul 5.1 fluid at no charge to you, have them do that. Otherwise, just wait until after and put in Motul RBF600

At least the master cylinder is easy to DIY (if you want). The part is only $130 or so, and you should be able to do the replacement in under an hour easy. Good opportunity to put in your own brake fluid as well (Motul RBF600 is highly recommended).

Not quite sure I get what you are asking. The clutch master cylinder (CMC) is different from the concentric slave cylinder (CSC). The master is up at the top of the clutch system near the reservoir on the opposite side of the firewall from the clutch pedal. The slave is located inside the the transmission bell housing at the end of the clutch system. There is no way to see what the fluid in the CSC looks like without removing the transmission. You could drain the fluid I guess, but that's not going to tell you whether the CMC or the CSC has failed (unless recently changed fluid was just absolutely filthy - then you can be pretty sure at least one of them has failed), and it certainly won't tell you which one has failed.

If the CSC is the problem, the part is very difficult to replace. I've usually seen 7-8 hours for labor, but 9 hours is not completely unreasonable. Also, if the CSC is being replaced, you should make sure they replace the CMC as well (regardless of whether it has failed - the internal seals in the CMC are likely already compromised by the dirty fluid from the CSC failure).

Sorry I misunderstood . When I said master I meant the brake master didnt realize theres a clutch master
I spoke to the prev owner again and he said he had the clutch pedal problem b4 and just changed the fluid to dot5 and it fixed it . That was at 30000 mis I can replace the master myself no problem . How do I drain and replace the fluid .Ive bled brakes n4 so Im sure I can do it By the way the clutch does not bottom out .Its just engaging alot lower and the pedal wants to stick down with eng on or off my friend thinks its a throwout bearing Last edited by frankiev; 09-11-2015 at 06:10 PM. |
