Has anyone toyed with modifying the stock VSLD to lock up better. I've heard about changing shims, but understand this effects gear mesh. Are there other methods that are effective?

Modifying Stock VLSD
Has anyone toyed with modifying the stock VSLD to lock up better. I've heard about changing shims, but understand this effects gear mesh. Are there other methods that are effective? I'd like to have a good working diff for the road course.

gear mesh and shimming have nothing to do with how the lsd works |

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll upgrade to OS Giken or the Cusco RS. Any comments on either of these diffs? I'm looking for a well mannered diff that doesn't require special fluid or maintenance every other weekend. Last edited by rbratton; 11-02-2009 at 10:57 AM. |

gear mesh would yes, but that has nothing to do with how the diff works though. The Viscous works by virtue of the fluid inside it, which is different from the normal rear end fluid, heating up. The viscous is a sealed unit
I did a post a few weeks back outlining the various diff options. Cusco and OS are both great choices. We run an OS in one of our Z's, and I've been running the Cusco in mine for about 5 years now. Biggest issue with the Cusco is you just can't get your hands on it right now without paying extra to air it in, or waiting a significant amount of time (few months). Demand has slowed down, so we're not bringing in the normal stocking orders we used to |
