Clutch Chatter In/Out of Gear
Hey all!
I just picked up my Z on Saturday from the dealer, she's a real looker. Only issue is that the previous owner installed a stage two clutch/flywheel and I don't know what manufacturer they are from. Is there a way I can tell without opening up the tranny to see? The reason I ask is there is sometimes some heavy clutch chatter both when the clutch isn't engaged and when I'm in gear, and I'm thinking it's because the clutch may be set too tight and isn't fully disengaging when the pedal is let all the way out. Any thoughts on either of these? I've done some searching around and I know that I can twist the black adjustment knob behind the pedal, and there doesn't feel like any play in it at all and the release is pretty much right as the pedal is at full-out which seems to me like the clutch is just too tight. Thanks in advance! |
The factory flywheel is a dual mass flywheel which effectively eliminates the chatter. Aftermarket units are single mass and will chatter. It's just a fact of life. Some are worse than others. IMHO either get used to it or go back to a factory clutch and flywheel.

:iagree: If it is an aftermarket clutch setup, I'm going to guess that pretty much any noise/chatter you hear is perfectly normal. Even the stock clutch chatters a fair amount when sitting in idle - it's very easy to hear it sitting in my garage with the windows down. Joe at ZSpeed offers a noise dampening option with clutch kits he sells to folks that DD their Z or just don't want the excessive chatter.
Personally, I enjoy the chatter. I'm looking forward to replacing my clutch and getting a super lightweight flywheel that will likely have my Z sounding like an F250 diesel at idle :) |
I made a similar thread:
http://www.the370z.com/nismo-370z/10...n-chatter.html Except I only get the chatter at low RPM in all gears (1100-1200 rpm). Are you experiencing this? |
