Royal Purple 01600 Purple Ice Super-Coolant Radiator Additive
Hey, z'ers. Question about this product. Since we are getting over 100 degrees here in California I've been getting over 240 on the gauge. Haven't had time yet to get a cooler and been meaning to but my job currently has me working some 11 hour days.
Does this product help some with the heat or is it just another bust? |

It helps bro, I don't own one yet but I have read others report 20-30 degrees cooler. You can get additional cooling for the transmission and your differential and you can add an additive to your antifreeze that helps run 12-18 degrees cooler as well. I know royal purple sells some additive for that.

RP doesn't seem to have the reviews of redline or the green/yellow one whose name I forgot.

I would invest in the external oil cooler. Wouldn't rely on an engine coolant additive to help decrease engine coolant temps.
You would also have to change your antifreeze to water mixture to get more of a heat transfer effect of the additive. Also try running a different Thermostat, and maybe there is a way to alter your fan settings to come on at a lower temperature. Also if you are a 7spd auto, i would recommend doing an external transmission cooler as well. Thats my .02

The 370z uses a 180* T stat iirc. The mishimoto is like 150* when it starts to open.
I'm not sure if this will work on the 370z... But on the Titans vk56 we have found that you can use a Nissan OEM 300zx twin turbo T stat which is 170* and cut the cage off of it, and it drops right in to the T stat housing. Might be another cheaper option to look into. This may yield a consistent 6-10deg (or more) operating temperature reduction vs stock engine coolant temp. Nissan OEM 300zx Twin turbo 170Deg Tstat Part # 21200-42L01 cage is cut from the bottom.

Also what is the oem preset engine coolant temperature for when the 370Z electric fan comes on?
And can you guys control this through Uprev, or do you have to buy a complete aftermarket kit with different fan controller?

You want to stay away from MiSHITimoto because their seals are crap, also, with the thermostat that's 150, you'll get a CEL because the car won't get to operating temp fast enough

You can use UpRev, or a controller, most use UpRev because... Well, I haven't seen more than maybe 2-3 people with fan controllers (on an OEM setup; AKA not running "GTMs" radiator) and one of those guys had an issue recently

By the way, favoring the mixture ratio a bit to distilled water is also a good way to help keep temps down. Nothing absorbs heat like water.

Yeah i understand what you're saying about the Thermostat opening and closing temps.
I didn't recommend the Mishimoto, i just noticed that was the only aftermarket option. Thats why i listed the 300zx Tstat as a possibility. The mishimoto is way to low, if the 370z is anything like the titan, the engine coolant temp has to be 172.6 deg before you can make any adjustments to timing etc... VIA uprev. unless this has changed. Also running that cold has no benefit either.

Since the OP I assume is referring to engine oil temp being 240deg and not engine coolant, as there would be an underlying problem more so than what some additive could fix...
I say just go with an external oil cooler setup to solve the engine oil temp problem. The VQ engines are notorious for this.
