3rd gear 7at question
Is there anything i can do to rev out 3rd gear more on the 7AT? Once tuned, I might raise the rev limiter to 8k if it still makes power. Right now, third goes to 80 and I was looking for about 90-95. I havent seen any FD's that go below 3.3(stock 7AT) and suprisingly google was no help. PS idas about my 7th
thanks |
Why?
And you don't want to raise the limiter if you intend on going past 7500 often. The oil pump will die and if you're on a turn you'll likely oil starve |
In my 5.0 I went from 3.73 to 3.31 to stay in the power band longer down the 1/4...even with then % decrease in acceleration I managed much better ET and trap. Guy were either doing 3.31 or 4.10. 4th in this 7AT is weak....

An extra 500RPM's isn't going to get you 15mph in that gear. I'd leave it alone if I were you :twocents:

you can try a 3.90 FD, Some guys go 4.08's but I think 3.90's for us auto guys. I'm trying to change both on mine. Still looking for a set for the front

I agree the FD on the AT is lacking in the upper gears. I believe 4th is 1:1, which leaves 5-7 as three overdrives.
The 4.08 redefines the performance of our cars. I have tons of power and torque through all seven gears now. Upgrading the diff is a pricey mod, but a game changer in terms of power availability. I don't track my car (or drive it daily) but my guess would be that I could get through the quarter in 4th or even 5th gear with all the available power the car offers. |

Power has no impact on gearing/speed. All it's going to do it accelerate you there faster.
I'm making 510whp over the 262whp when it was stock and all my gears/speed are identical to the day I drove it off the lot. Unless you change FD gearing or RPMs it'll be the same for every one else. |
