Temp. Normal or Not?

i Live in Bahrain , i think that's enough to say for what the Image shows.

is that reading 117ish c (242 f)?

High side of normal (and safe), especially for 47 c (116 f) temps!

Spooler 06-30-2015 07:57 AM

Yeap about normal at 239 F. It appears it is an 11'. I would install an aftermarket oil cooler. 34 row for sure.

In Bahrain, I'd definitely invest in an oil cooler. Both Z1 and Stillen have several options.

:iagree:

Normally I recommend either nothing or the ARC cool fins (to avoid overcooling...) , but if you are seeing ambient temps that high a good portion of the year, an oil cooler might be a worthwhile investment.

Ideally something in the 95 c +/-10 c is about perfect, but a bit cooler and quite a bit warmer (up to, say, about 122 c is acceptable) if not ideal.

You kidding me. His outside temp was 116 F on the gauge. It is hot as all get out in Bahrain. Been there before. It actually
get's even hotter.

I was seeing 110c at about 25c outside on average. I ordered a 34 row oil cooler, installed it and now see 90 to 94c. On the way home from work today,my oil temp got to 90c and it is +32c

Which is why I recommended a cooler for his particular case...

I just don't think its always necessary for people living in more moderate climates if they aren't tracking the car. They tend to have to trade under-cooling for over-cooling, hence the various block-off plate add-ons.

Over-cooling is harder on a DD than under-cooling, if nothing else because the engine will spare itself via "limp mode" as temps climb into the iffy range.

However, for a guy in Bahrain, or any region regularly seeing 100+ f ambient temps, an oil cooler is definitely worthwhile.

At what temperature is it no longer safe?

MagmaRed370z 06-30-2015 08:08 PM

tiny little bit high but on the safe side. Nothing really to worry about though.

Yeah, but he's just shy of limp mode

OP, buy the largest oil cooler you can, 34 row isn't enough and Stillen's core may work better because it's a WIDE 25, but besides the core it's a shittier system. Then you need a CSF radiator ASAP.

It depends on the oil, but realistically, for a synthetic, creeping up over 280* F is getting risky at full tilt (sustained high load). The odds of actually seeing shearing and loss of significant lubrication probably won't happen much before 300* F tho'.

Limp mode kicks in well before there's any chance of damaging the motor.

Too cool (insufficient lubing) is really anything below about 150* F. Beating on the motor is best saved until at least 170* F.

Ideal is hovering around 200* F give or take 20* F.

just installed a z1 34row oil cooler..and seeing instant drops in temp by 40 degrees F and this is in 90 degrees F weather here in SoCal..highly recommend you pick one up!
