Urethane Transmission Mount Coming Soon
We recently began work on designing a new, urethane transmission mount for the 370Z/G37. Since we're a sponsor on this forum, we figured we would give you guys a preview!
http://www.z1auto.com/images/z1ureth...smount370z.jpg The stock mount uses a soft rubber that is liquid filled. While it's up and down durometer rating (stiffness) is sufficient, there is alot of play side to side. This promotes that rubbery, almost vague feeling things have gear to gear. The solution for us will be a direct replacement, bolt in, urethane transmission mount that has consistent stiffness for both lateral and medial movement. You will not need to press anything or modify anything in any way. The upper portion of the mount will be cnc'd aluminum, just like the OEM unit, and the urethane section will come preinstalled so it's ready to put into the car. It will include all the required hardware as well as detailed instructions. This will benefit both the casual street driver and the more aggressive track driver equally with noticeably quicker shifts without all the slop. We will be able to offer this in 2 stiffness level, comfort, and race. These are fully developed, designed and produced in the USA. MSRP is expected to be approximately $150.00 for the comfort version and $185.00 for the race version. This is the anticipated retail price, but final street price will be determined by dealers who wish to carry the product. The above is preliminary and final design may change a bit. I expect to have the samples back here in about a week, so we can do some testing and then ramp up to production. Thanks for looking! |
in for updates...
cool! I may want the race version
In for more.
Quick question, will I have problems installing this since I have a B&M short throw shifter? |
how hard or easy would the installation be?
It will not have any affect on your shifter choice
Install is straightforward on these. The transmission only mounts to the car in 1 spot so it's just a single mount |
Sounds good, looking forward to a finish product then. :D

interesting..

Intrested as well.

Application for 7AT? (ie, same part, any benefit?)
I'd doubt the mount is the same for the auto. We have no plans for ones for auto's, sorry
I wonder how much of an increase of NVH this will cause...

Will you or is there any Urethane motor mounts as well? You kind of need to do both at the same time otherwise you will be tearing up motor and/or trans mounts because of the different properties. I have been there and done that! |

Overlooked tweaks and mods like this are cool, nonetheless. |

actually no, you don't have to do both at the same time on this, or on 350Z's The urethane we are using, as mentioned in the first post, will have 2 stiffnesses offered. The motors mounts are already quite stiff. The only purpose to do a urethane one would be for the track guys. You would never tear the factory motor mounts though, they are a very robust and stiff setup already |

Glad to see more and more functional performance parts coming to the market for this car! Keep up the good work Z1 :).

all depends on what stiffness bushing you choose - that is why we are offering 2, and may even consider 3 different compounds, so the user can choose depending on their needs/wants
sample piece will be installed next week, so we'll snap pics, etc as it's being done and let the driver give his impressions
Just got our samples in - started off with 2 different stiffnesses so far, street/track and track.

Sweet!
Damn those look sexy! me wants...
Sweet. Can't wait for more pics as the install progresses
Hey Z1 .. dont forget im not too far from you guys.. and have a G37 if you need a test dummy for that id be down! :)
any updates?
So this just tightens up the shifter? I don't take my car to the track (none around), is the casual version all I need for the street? Or should I just go with the race version?
Z1Performance is no longer a sponsor here so not sure this is going to go anywhere unless another company wishes to pick it up.
they would have replacement parts for the whole car out already if we were z32's
Too bad this sounded interesting.
While we're no longer sponsors here, yes the units worked out flawlessly and we currently have a few cars with them in both race and street versions. We didn't proceed with a big production run because there was really not sufficient demand from cthe community. That is sorta why we're not sponsors anymore, because demand in general for the 370Z parts was next to nill. So we remain focused instead on the 350Z ones which have been flying out the door for us. If the members want it, we're happy to make it however, so it really is all up to you guys

Considering in the US there are just over 10k vehicles, many of which are probably never going to be modded so. Also, when this product was announced we were just coming up on one year of the 370z, not the best way to determine interest. |
noob question, what exactly does this do read the whole thread and I noticed to answer to the noise and vibration question
