Maybe yours is the knockoff as all the others in the thread have writing like mine. Seriously though mine was from one of the early group buys. I was on track when it failed but less than 8k miles on the pulleys.

Funny how many people think upgrading pieces will last you long when you drive the car on the track and off with so called "spirited" driving and then warn the rest about the product when it breaks. Any mod will break if you beat up enough on it. Sorry yours broke. Change it and move on. Many who use it on the track and off have these and lasted for long too. If mine breaks, I'm not complaining and simply swap and move on.

Sorry had to just remind folks.
There were two versions of the NST Crank pulleys. Version 1 Version 2 like LAVA's example Can you spot the difference? If NOT the spacing between the center cutouts are thicker on version 2 Hence the less probability of it failing NOT that it couldn't fail but making it less likely. I see the failures are from the early adopters while they were on version 1 Hope it clears the air as to why some are failing. I bought my set as they were rolling out version 2 and have not had any issues to warrant me to want to remove it. Last edited by Trips; 09-26-2015 at 12:56 PM. |

seem like some person takes everything very personal nowadays ,, even some sarcasm is too much...
its not like I told the guy, hey man stop buying crap knockoff stuff .... look, NST has been around for years now and im sure some guys didn't know they went with different version on the same car. I had mine from Mike Monammi (cant spell his name right) in the beginning when he did his first part out on this forum. |

I could be wrong, but other than a few cases of the actual pulley itself failing (usually due to bad installs) I haven't seen any engine issues (spun bearings, broken crank, etc) that was linked to a lightweight pulley...and I've seen alot of folks that have been running them on our platform for years. It seems that a lot of the advise against them is based in theory of what could happen rather than what actually has happened (at least with VQ motors). Not trying to discredit anyone, just giving my personal observations.

No idea if mine is version one or two, but it failed 5 months after install. Only two track days IIRC.

I'm curious to know if these failures were caused by improper installation. As in, over torquing the crank pulley bolt back on, causing fatigue in the pulley "arms". Even if one is fatigued enough, it can be enough for the others to fail. I'm trying to gauge how bad these pulleys actually are... it seems the original thread by NST was full of nothing but praise regarding the pulleys.. all 97 pages (and hate regarding delivery times). Why did NST stop being a vendor on this forum? Seems odd they are still in business but would drop off a forum. Were they just unable to keep up with demand regarding the pulleys? From what I gather, it looks like hundreds of people have bought these, but I've only come across maybe 5 or 6 failures. I don't know what to think, but it seems like these pulleys would be a nice power bump across the entire RPM range, as opposed to other mods, like intakes, that only really benefit at the top of the RPM range. Also, has anyone actually suffered engine damage from the pulley failing? Or was it just the pulley itself? I also find it interesting that no one else makes these pulleys for the 370z, besides NST. IIRC they made two different versions, and the earlier versions were much more prone to failure due to thinner webbing.
Plus their customer service was pretty piss poor for those whose pulleys failed. Left a sour taste in the community.
