Boost Controller **** the Bed
So 3/4 the way through our 3000+ mile road trip to Vegas to get married and my EVC 6 boost controller **** the bed and it stopped controlling boost (it actually failed in a way that kept the waste gates closed).
I ended up just clamping off the line coming out of the stepper and ran on spring pressure the rest of the way home. Anyways now I am looking for a new regulator for it. I would rather keep the same unit since its all wired in and I do like it. Does anyone know of any HKS dealers that have replacement parts for these things? Thanks Mitch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psvu86wjlw.jpg |
Congrats man!!

Congrats! Not sure what a regulator is. There is a controller and a solenoid in every EBC. The solenoid is cheap and plenty on ebay. You should remove the solenoid and test it first.
|
Sorry hear man
But that is a good looking couple with a couple of good looking cars  Congrats on the nuptials :tiphat: |
Thanks man.
Just spoke to HKS Europe and apparently there is no such thing as being able to purchase replacement parts?!? So I spent 600+ on a boost controller that lasted one year and now I have to rip it out (which is a total pita) to run something else? Ugh |

You mean the solenoid? Sorry to hear that. I'm looking around and might settle for TurboSmart.
|
Yeah the solenoid, spoke to an HKS dealer here in alberta of all places and he said you cannot get just the parts for it. Going to email HKS directly in japan and see if they can do anything for me. If that fails then I guess I am tearing it out.
It sucks because I really did like the unit, it worked great. |
So the HKS dealer I called suggested I go with the EVC S unit instead. Anyone like that one? How about one that is not HKS? Im a little irked at how hard it is to deal with companies based out of Japan. I dont think I would have this issue if I had a euro car with a euro company making parts.
Looking at ~600 to order a full new EVC 45003-AK012 unit..... Guess I would be taking a gamble if it lasts any longer than the first because warranty and replacement parts is not a thing HKS does. |
First, Congrats!
Look at the new Innovate Motorsports SCG-1. I just installed one in ,my car, but I haven't had time to play with it. Besides that, Fast Intentions swears by Turbo Smart, and there is the GFB one. |
That's very unfortunate in regards to support. From the TurboSmart site there are links to manuals and spare parts! I was reading the manual for e-Boost, and it accepts a square wave type RPM signal for boost mapping. It also has a couple of output pins you can program to trigger an LED or drive a small aux accessory like water spray.
Plus, I recently sent my BOVs to have it serviced since I didn't have the proper tools. It's $25 + $15 to get it shipped back to you. Not bad at all. |

Plus, I've got an oil cooler fan ordered. I might as well get as much done as I can while the bumper is off. I can't fully enjoy my car until I get this stuff done. |
Look into GFB. I love mine. Was looking into the EVC S, but decided on this at the last minute because the awesome reviews.

The only thing that kept me away from the GFB (and its not a big deal), is that fact you need to run a hose into the cabin directly to the controller.

I had some issues with oil lines at the start but now I have 0 leaks. How are your PCV hoses running? Reason I ask is the way Sasha at Boosted Performance does his kit I have literally no oil from the pcv system entering the air. If I pull the boost tubes there is some oil which is expected but its not enough to even see a hint of blue from the exhaust so I dont worry about it. If I lived any further south I would have to rethink my cooling situation myself. The car regularly idled at 220F oil temp, got it up to 248F sitting in traffic with the AC going. But up here I rarely break the 220F point. |
OK I got it narrowed down to
eBoost2 60mm Black or the new SCG-1 Solenoid Boost Controller Gauge I know the innovate one is new and Jason is the only one who said he has it but has not really had seat time with it. Has any +'s and -'s with these? Anything you dont like about them? I see the turbosmart has many more features and to be honest most I wont use, it would be cool to get the shifting setup with it but I dont know of any way to set up the wiring to make this happen with our car. I would need some sort of digital to analog converter to condition the signal for the gauge. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I do like the Innovate and its ability to watch the afrs to control leaning out with the boost, and I do like how it shows the duty cycle of the wastegate right on the gauge, lets you know a little bit more insight to what its trying to do, and as a tuner it will help see what is really happening when these cars start to drop boost at the upper rpms. I have also been thinking about just getting a cheaper mechanical one for the mean time. I ordered Mr. Galeforces gauge pod and have a few weeks of waiting before I get one, so in the mean time ill either, just mount the gauge directly to my stock pillar, run wastegate pressure, or install a manual boost controller. Nice thing about the manual is its very easy to install since everything is already there. Just plug it in and go. |
I know Sasha will be installing one soon, also TonyHTX has a SCG-1 that he's been using for a while, http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...out-sedan.html I would message him.

I just checked and I can get one through one of our suppliers we use for diesel tuning, so im going to go that route and give it a shot.

http://www.the370z.com/3228760-post44.html So far I'm still looking at the TurboSmart EBC since it's pretty small, and I think I can integrate it to the dash. I would have to route a hose into the cabin as well, but I plan to tee it to the boost gauge by moving the sensor inside the cabin as well. The cubby holder will be removed until I get around to getting something custom fabbed. Also, the relay box on the driver side near the headlight is pretty empty. So I plan to make room for the wastegate solenoid and fan relay. Hopefully it'll keep things "cool" instead of being fully exposed to the heat in the bay. |
