I am still making 370nm torque at 7000rpm though and torque only starts nosing over at 6800rpm. It is still making 360nm at 7800 and power is still climbing at 8000rpm.

390Nm at 8200 was our best but i was right on the edge of knock - that is 335Kw atw (449hp).

We have dialled it back quite a lot on safety grounds as I want the engine to last. so 370nm at 8000 is where we settled which is 310Kw or 415hp all atw

Assuming 15% parasitic losses in the driver train (might be 12%), that is an estimated 485hp at the crank.

So our first race meeting of the 2024 series has been run - Victorian (my home state in AUS) Sports Car Championship.

Car ran like a train after we got rid of the head-fork that was DBW throttle (Sasha Anis told me several times that would be how it ended).

I ran as high as 5th after some of the 911 Cup Cars fell off after they touched but finished 7th outright and first in class.

Bolted on a set of Yokohama A005 slicks and they work the best of Yoki, Pirelli and Michelin. I might try a set of Dunlop slicks in due course.

The only issue is pottering back to the pits after the feature 20-lapper the oil pressure was a bit low (oil temp after a 30-minute race was 112 degC) so I have to get a smaller pulley for the dry-sump oil pump to spin it a bit harder at idle and just off idle. Have to revise the oil-cooler ducting as well and possibly a larger oil cooler at the end of the day.

Tried a set of Circo (Japanese made by Winmax) M207 endurance pads and they were brilliant. Braking performance is simply outstanding.

I'm really happy to be enjoying the car - it has no apparent vices although I am not at 100% yet given it is such a different animal to my old race car.

I am now officially getting old.

On April 25, I collapsed at the dinner table with a bunch of mates whilst attending a track-day event in Sth Australia 500kms from home. I was unconscious for < 60 seconds but transported to a local hospital and observed overnight on a ECG and blood pressure machine. The hospital sent my records to my cardiologist (have been have slight issues with the ECG I am required to have annually since turning 50 for my race licence) and arranged to see him the following Monday.

He looks at the ECG from the 25th and compared to last Dec and says "there is further minor deterioration" but when he compared to 5 years ago - he says the deterioration is significant and I need a pacemaker.

The real cause of the collapse was low blood pressure (105/80) and the root cause was a slow pulse (39bpm). I've always has a slow heart rate but this is "too slow".

When your brain senses low BP, it turns the lights out to make you horizontal so your heart is not working against gravity (clever thing the brain).

So the pacemaker was installed on 7th May.

Then I get a call about 5 weeks later saying "come in the the surgery" asap, which I did.

Because the pacemaker is networked and sends summary data to the manufacturer nightly and they produce a summary of exceptions and email the cardiologist the next morning - the analysis found a 2-hour episode at Atrial Fibrillation (can allow blood to "pool" in heart chambers which can clot resulting in a stroke) so the doc says "blood thinners" for life now.

So, race licence renewal is now in doubt and SWMBO has dictated only 2 race meetings per year and everything else needs to be sprints/track days.

Bottom line - anyone over 70 is likely to experience these sorts of symptoms ..... so us "old f4rts" need to look after ourselves. My formerly 110kg self is now under 100 and heading for 85. Hopefully that reduces cardiac related risks.

Next outing will be a track day on 18th August and race event in early Nov subject to discussion with SWMBO

So, following all the health-related drama of the past 5 months, I am happy to say that my race license remains intact and last weekends club-level event went off without a hitch, finishing 3rd overall and 2nd in class (beaten by a Lotus 430 s/c).

I picked up another 7-10th for a personal best in the Z.

Normal service has been resumed.

Bout of low-blood pressure caused by slow heart rate (37 beats/minute, BP 105/80).

Fitted with a pacemaker to control heart rate and blood thinners to lower viscocity. Sh1t likes this happens after your total number of birthdays rises over 70 apparently (my brain still insists I act like a 25-year old though).

Probably doesn't help still working at this age (too many projects still to finish)

Glad you got it taken care of.

I got 68 orbits around the sun in. Retired at 60, and went back to work. Trying different things. I was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 years ago. I've learned to live with it. Like you, the mind says 25, the body says nope. Think again.
