Battery CA/CCA Question

I need to replace my battery and called Nissan and Autozone, and both are telling me two different things. Nissan said 2009 370Z requires 700 for cca and 875 for ca, whereas Autozone said 545 for cca and 685 for ca.

Thoughts?

I put a bigger bat in (from the titan i think) My car gets pretty cold sometimes the OEM one was 6 years old and fading.

it fits? or are the batteries both the same size? i figure i much rather be at OEM standards, if not higher, and i knew there would probably be a difference in amps between OEM and aftermarket, but not this drastic....

yah, anything higher than 550 cca should work fine. higher the better basically, well from wats usually available.

Published requirements include use in Canada and other frigid parts of the World. The smaller (ampacity-wise) battery will work just fine in balmy FL.

As far as physical size, there are standard sizes. Verify the size you need in the Owner's Manual.

kenchan 05-27-2015 11:24 AM

yah, i think group35. should be the same size as my G.

vtec to vvel 05-27-2015 03:31 PM

So i replaced the battery.

1. sizes are different, old one was group 35 and new one is group 24 (a bit bigger).

car starts up fine, and a bit faster. but will the difference in size/specs be okay?

Physical size is not important ... as long as it fits. You can't have too many available amps* - the starting motor will only pull as much as it needs.

*Way too much can be a fire hazard but won't harm the electrical system.

i knew it! extra plastic, extra battery acid, wider terminals, terminal felt circles, extra terminal grease....all that extra weight make me slower. now the si's can keep up with me.

btw, i tried PMing you but i guess you disabled that option? anyways, i was browsing 8thcivic.com not to long ago, as it's been about 4 years since i last logged on, and saw that you're on there too?? i thought your username looked familiar from somewhere when i first registered and saw it.

Hey guys and gals,
I just replaced my OEM battery with an Optima Red Top Group 35.
My Z now cranks up with hesitation, and feels like power is off the charts!
I highly recommend this battery. It should set you back about $159, and you can
easily install it yourself.
My windows did not automatically reset, but this is a quick fix that you can read about in other 370Z threads.
