Billet Oil Pump Gears and Backing Plate - Group Buy Interest??
Everyone knows that the stock VHR oil pump gears blow out with elevated engine speeds. This is especially concerning for me personally as I am building a high RPM VHR/HR-head competition engine as a back-burner project for my 370z. I would like to spin to 8000-8250 for regular use and 8500-9000 for occasional use at the track.
I have reached out to a manufacturer of billet oil pump gears about producing a VHR gear set for CJ Motorsports. Their oil pump gears are considered almost mandatory for upgraded and modified Coyote V8s, which as a new Mustang owner, is how I learned of this manufacturer. They will put into production VHR oil pump gears with an initial order of 15 sets. I would like to try and find 10 buyers interested. In my investigations, I found that the Mustang world went through of phase of trying to cyro-treat the stock oil pump gears. It looks like this was found to either generate no improvement, or questionably even worsen the situation. But I have been unable to find any accounts of billet gears failing in the community... So I asked the manufacturer their failure rate of the billet gears, and they replied that, to their knowledge, the billet gears have never broken yet, with some of their race engines spinning to 10,000rpm at 2000+hp. Also, aside from the oil pump gears, I want produce a steel backing plate for the oil pump. This will add to rigidity and can reduce flex in the oil pump housing resulting in improved flow, pressure, and reduce the likeliness of pump gear binding. This is a practice I also learned of in the Mustang scene, as Ford elected to do this for the 2013 GT500s. As for pricing on the backing plate, I do not have a solid figure yet - but we are talking about under $200. I will figure out the backing plate if we get enough interest to put the gears into production. Let me know what you guys think! Official In-List: 1. Rusty 2. Elmo 3. BGTV8 4: Chuck33079 5: Carbon_z

I am almost done with this billet live-baffle oil pan setup as well. Between this pan, the oil pump gears and backing plate, and an oil cooler kit I am working on - I am hoping to have the lubrication setup for my race engine completed. Of course, everything will be available and sold separately. You wont need my pan or cooler to run the oil pump upgrades.

I am interested for sure. I'd have to figure out some sneaky way to pay for it since I'm supposed to be saving every single dime for my wedding, but some things are just a higher priority.

Very interesting. So for someone who isn't well versed on what it would take to rev this motor higher, what else would be involved? Aside from the gears and the backing plate? Would the stock oil pump work efficiently at 8500rpms, or would one be required to purchase something else. I havent done any research on increasing the rev limit because I always thought that the VVEL would fail or something (I read on here a couple of years ago). I understand that I'm asking to be spoon fed here, so if you don't feel like elaborating feel free to tell me to search lol.

Bonus points if you can invoice me with the item listed as something I could explain as a wedding expense.

Definitely interested!!!!!! I'm looking for a reliable wet sump solution for my occasional tracking DD machine! My main concern is oil starve in long 1g turns and I'd love to push safely up to 8000-8500 occasionally (I just don't trust the OEM pump past 7500)
please count me in!

As for the rest of the engine, the same applies. I would personally not spin the stock crankshaft much beyond 8000 if you are concerned for reliability based on the accounts of those that have when using dry sumps. I personally feel about the same with the VVEL system for now. Unless we can find anyone who has taken it beyond 8000 very often, I am not sure we have any data to work with. Generally the guys who are spinning the highest have switched to HR heads to my knowledge. |

I have to go run some errands for a few hours. If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to post and I will answer the best I can when I return around dinner time.
Thanks! |

On a separate note, I have seen the internals hold up to the higher rpms ~8500-9000 on dry sump based systems and I dont think VVEL will be an issue but will come down to tuning. My main concern is how well the oil pump will flow and how the baffled pan will assist in that. Cant wait for results! ECUTEK will definitely be a plus when going this route!

I would interested in the whole kit. couple questions? Would you need any supporting mods, say for me i would be getting long tube headers exhaust intakes and a oil cooler and a uprev custom tune to 7,700 or7,800 rpms. Would you need some type of after market balancer to Rev that high. My car would be just used for the weekend's until i build itsome more.

The "nismo" billet 4340 pump gears failed consistantly so i hope these don't.
