Billet Oil Pump Gears and Backing Plate - Group Buy Interest??

Another thing holding back others might be the fear of install, perhaps? I know I'm interested in these. I've finally got some funds rolling my way for stuff like this

Phunk, do you think you would be able to have a comprehensive DIY guide for this if it were produced? I'm sure that would put many people, at least myself, at ease for attempting this install.

It is a very technical procedure, and I am not sure I would be comfortable suggesting it as a DIY installation.. unless of course someone was already so confident in the procedure that they were not concerned.

There are many ways to go wrong when you get this deep into an engine, and a VQ is as complex as engines get when it comes to timing chains and covers, and that area of the engine in general.

Doing this with the engine in the car can technically be done, but it wouldnt allow for it to be done to service manual specifications. To properly do it would require removing the upper oil pan, which cannot be done with the engine in the car unless you drop the crossmember and steering rack (pretty much whole front suspension) in which case the engine would need to be suspended from above.

I dont think I would install these gears as an individual installation. IMHO its something that makes more sense to do when the engine is out for other procedures. But it could be done.

IMHO? $1,000 install more money more problems. Better find a trustworthy shop, or let phunk know of a better solution to increase revs to make more power.

None would be needed - They would be direct replacements for the OEM gears. So you would just follow the factory service manual.

I am interested, my long term goal is to turn this Z which is currently my DD into my Racecar/track only. I am pretty overall ignorant when it comes to engine stuff-and not sure exactly what my na build will all entail, but I like the idea of this and understand what it does vs the complexity of the dry sump. I too would be interested in some sort of Kit, or package deal that kills a few birds with one stone so to say.

We cannot package these parts because they do not exist yet. We have to get 10 or more buyers to get the gears produced. There is no benefit to packaging them.

Elmo - I don't think this is going to happen .... lots of interest but it requires a high level of commitment to crack and engine open for this sort of work, and it is never cheap ...

There is an alternative but it will still require the front of the engine to be cracked open. When I am certain of all of the details, I'll add to my VQ40HRGA thread

Yes, and like I said ... there may be an external oil-pump option available based on what has been done for RB-series engines .... if I find something, I'll post in my engine build thread.
