I was wondering what the difference between a custom uprev tune vs a regular uprev tune. I see a lot of custom tunes raising the rev limiter to 7700 on a stock oil pump, is that playing with fire?

Guys at Z1 run 7800 on track all day but I keep mine at 7500 to be safe. The part that is in danger at higher RPMs is the oil pump. It can come apart approaching 8 k and toast the engine very catastrophicly.

7,800 on a stock oil pump? I know when approaching 8k things go south very quick. I was wondering would 7700 be safe or pushing the limits? I'll be getting a tune towards the end of year. I rather know now then regretting it down the road.

That's what they told me 7800 no problem. Like you I'm a bit dubious, so I kept mine at 7500 after all I'm tracking not racing so I don't miss 10 hp or so and my turns dont have me sitting on a long redline at HPR. I'm still thinking about some oil upgrades. Possibly an accusump in case I cavitate in a long turn. Also a very controversial (around here) manufacturer is putting together a stronger non dry sump oil kit. I'm eager to see how the development goes...

Mmm that's interesting. I'm just going to go with the dry sump set up and forego forced induction. Then raising the redline past 8000 rpms wouldn't be so nerve racking.
