If you are in doubt, keep it around 1/2, you will end up causing more damage by misreading the dipstick and adding oil when it is not needed.

if someone has a dipstick pic mayby they can point out the limit for him, I didn't know it was that complicated!

if you'll lose sleep over it,
drain some out.... will be messy to tighten the bolt while oil is flowing out :icon14: |
Honestly, with the oil consumption issues our cars have (at least mine). I check once a week and try to keep my level exactly at the high level.
I understand that it may be unacceptable in this day and age to require such frequent checks of oil level. But think about what Nissan has done with this engine. It started out in 1995 as a 2.0 liter and now is a 3.7 liter 332 HP monster. They have really delivered an amazing engine at a great price. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Better safe then sorry. With that said, I have had some very reputable mechanics (Curry's Auto in NOVA) tell me that it is better to be a 1/2 quart low then a 1/2 quart high. Moral of the story...Keep it close to or below full. |
There you go. ResIpsa is purposely keeping the level where you have it now. Not sure of the merit in keeping it at the H, but at least you're not alone now :).

Thanks for the inputs guys. It bothers me all the time so, I ended up changed my oil at Nissan. Now, I'm okey

FWIW, I changed my oil today and wouldn't you know it that I overfilled. A quick trip to Home Depot got me 25' of 1/4" polyurethane tubing for $3. I cut it to about 6' long and it slides down the dipstick port easily. I was able to siphon out some oil and get the dipstick reading below the H dot.

Why is everyone saying to wait until the engine is cold to check the oil? The owners manual says to get the engine to normal operating temperature, shut it off for 15 minutes and then check it. It's still pretty warm at that point.
