Does this mean we can go FI without worrying about transmission failure or is this just to delay the inevitable ?

There are still problems with the transmission, this is just a jumping off point

Agreed. The flex plate is not the first step in AT tranny upgrades.

I track my N/A 7AT about once a month and I have upgraded the torque converter and valve body plus my flex plate. I know a couple local people with FI and they're are fine on street with stock transmission, but on track you'll probably want a fully built transmission to be safe.

Question's about A/T,,,you mention problems with the transmission-i was looking at the cracked flex plate when i noticed this comment.
Are you referring to problems after an auto ~Z~ has be modded (forced inducted etc....) or just in general?
i've never had a glitch with mine stock & run it very hard at times.
ty for any input.

even stock you can crack the flex plate i would imagine. if you run it hard and lots of high RPM up/down shifts could wear on the flex plate over time.

actually saying that makes me wonder how bad mine is right now lol

:wtf2:

My car is N/A with intake, exhaust, and Uprev and I cracked mine twice. First time it was just the flex plate and the second time I had a full transmission replacement. I drive on track about once every month or two so I do drive pretty hard, but I personally know a guy who is completely stock and cracked his flex plate plus transmission with only 10,000km/6200miles. He did get it replaced under warranty tho.

I first cracked mine and didnt know for a year. It made the knock sensor upset and was reducing ign timing which means losing power for almost a year before I blew the front transmission seal/bearing. No one was able to diagnose the lost of power at the time and why the ign timing was lowering this much.

Once the new transmission was installed the timing went back where it should be and gaining about 30+whp in the top end.

This second flex plate didnt survived 5000kms as I pulled the 7AT to swap in a 6MT.

In my opinion the first mod on the 7AT should be the flexplate ! then an oil cooler if doing agressive track days.

edit :
the picture from 2011 on the dyno fully tuned but with a cracked flywheel. we had no control and spend nearly a complete year to figure out what was going on ,, almost traded the Z for an EVO X.

You aren't running enough power to worry about it. Plus you drive like a grandma:stirthepot:
