Neutral Position Switch CEL

Engine light came on. Code: P0850; Neutral Position Switch.

Car runs fine. Anyone heard of this?

I can't seem to find any information on this pertaining to Z's but other Nissans it seems to be an easy fix. On the other hand, dealer said every car (Juke, Versa, Frontier are ones he named) had to get their transmission swapped out. Any help or information on this would be appreciated.

P.S: The part itself is like 15 bucks.

Yes, I've had this same code pop up before. I took out my transmission to do a clutch install and when putting everything back together, I didn't fully clip in the Park/Neutral sensor. If you've never messed with the wiring harness on the transmission, I doubt the senor would have come undone by itself, so probably just a faulty sensor.

Alright good to know. Is it easily accessible? That was the dealers biggest concern pertaining to whether the tranny would need to be replaced for whatever reason. None the less. It's under warranty still.

Yes, it's easy to get to. It's on the drivers side of the transmission, towards the end of it. LOL, and I can't believe a dealer would think an entire transmission needs to be changed out for that!!!!. It takes all of 10 minutes to change out the sensor.

Hell, I wouldn't be in the way if a dealer wanted to replace the whole transmission under warranty.

Ya. Depends. I'd want it to not be like a tranny from a totaled Z or one with more miles than mine. If that was the case. Never know.

If it was under factory warranty, it's unlikely the replacement was used.

Good to know. Thanks everyone for the input.
