Had my first issue today :/
So I'm taking my mate to feed his girlfriends rabbits while shes away...
Being a nice guy as per usual, I'm in a 30 and doing 25... and I'm trying to show him syncrorev as he doesn't quite get it so I'm revving the engine and saying look how it catches ... blah blah blah, we pull up to her entry to her house and I rev up.. out of no where this car is flying at me from a blind bend doing probably about 60 in a 30, like a god damn bellend....I'm already commited as my front end is in their lane and I'm trying to pull in slowly..... I'm in 2nd and at about 4k revs.... So i think **** and drop the clutch, making the wheels spin and get out of his god damn way..... Then the smell of clutch comes, I'm devastated as you can tell.... I wasn't ******* about just an absolute idiot on the road..... Literally he had no chance of missing me if I didn't spin the wheels now when I'm in neutral the clutch sounds like its not fully dissengaging.... like its still making a noise.... anyone had this before.... A very Devastated Jon |

If the clutch hasn't fully disengaged into neutral then your car would be moving when you let off the clutch and might stall. Not sure what kind of noise you are hearing either. There should 't be any noise associated with it unless you are shifting.
My guess is, you had a close call and you asked your car to do something that was a quick reaction type of thing. You are probably just hyper-aware of any noise now because you believe you did something wrong. Dropping the clutch like you did isn't going to burn it and if you had synchro rev on like you said then it was already matched to your engine speed. The smell is likely just tires. You aren't going to burn up your clutch just getting out of someone's way. Let the car cool down. Drink a cup of tea. Relax. Take it out again later and drive around like normal and don't try to listen for things that are/aren't wrong. I'm sure everything is fine. |

Tend to agree with Tigger, but since you are sure it was clutch let me make sure the order of events is clear
You are: 1) slowing down to make the turn in to the house 2) you are going playing around with the SRM as you go in to 2nd 3)at the point you see the car you have the clutch depressed 4)SRM has the revs at about 4K 5)drop the clutch 6)smell clutch 7)hear sounds My question is concerning 5, drop the clutch. did you drop it, or did you hit the gas and slip the clutch? I guess I am wondering how you got burnt clutch if you dropped it, unless your clutch was on its last legs and this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. if you let it out slower, while increasing the revs, this might allow it to slip and burn a bit. Anyway, if you suspect the clutch is messed up I would suggest doing some tests, if you haven't already. -check how it engages in 1st. this is mostly about feeling where it engages and how lazy it is to get started -turn off SRM. go out on the road. get it in 3rd gear at a decent rpm. quickly downshift to 2nd. if the rpms don't instantly climb then you have a problem likely it is nothing. if the clutch was in good shape to start with. even if you smoked the crap out of it, you should be fine. |

Venom +1 for that friend.... see SRM didnt have the revs at 4k, I revved up..... then just released the clutch far too quick.... and then the smell fills up the interior! I'll check it tomorrow and see what the damage is... thanks for the advice on checking it tho dude, much much appreciated!

If you post a video or a sound clip using you tube it would be very helpful pin pointing it out.

That noise is normal. Both of my 350's did it and both of my 370's have done it. It is not the throw-out bearing as it was though when the issues first started. That noise is a characteristic of the Z. Everything is ok.
I have less than 3,500 miles on my Z and is doing it. I think I will be worried the day the noise is no longer there. For reference and peace of mind read the following: 370z clutch noise? and this one: Transmission / Clutch - Rattle and this other one: Depressed Clutch Noise/Vibration

I'm rather certain that's just flywheel chatter. I get the same thing when the car just starts up. Goes away after a little bit.
