Default Metal Buzzing Sound When Skipping to 6th

I recently noticed that when I accelerate fast from a stop and go to 2nd or 3rd, reach my desired speed of say 60 or 70, then go straight to 6th gear, there is a weird metal buzzing sound coming from below the shift knob, its quick and only happens just before it sits into the gear...

But it does not do it when I go through all gears, aka going into 6th from 5th.

Am I not supposed to skip gears? is this normal? or is something wearing out?

Thanks.

So what am I looking at? Is it an easy do it yourself job with simple tools? and how much does a dealership usually charge to fix this?

I have the Toyota Silver extended warranty and im pretty sure it falls under the category. So all I have to pay if transmission goes bad or some components of it is $100. So I dont think I should worry too much.
Only question is, should I wait to bring it in? Or bring it in and describe the issue?

Actually I bought both from a Dodge dealer, lol!
But the Toyota Warranty, at least the one I have, covers most any Japanese car.

You need to be patient when skipping gears. Just hang out at the 6th gear gate for a second or so while the RPMs settle down. If you have SRM, this is very simple and just a matter of waiting. If you don't have SRM, you need to time the shift properly to avoid grinding the synchros - shift exactly at the proper RPMs as they are dropping or rev match yourself to get the RPMs in the proper range after they drop.

Synchro replacement requires removing the transmission and taking it apart. Absolutely do not DIY unless you have the proper tools and experience.

It's probably covered. But why are you asking us? Ask Toyota.

Cause if I exit out quick onto a main road of vehicles traveling at 50+ mph, Most people will usually hit 60 in 2nd gear... why go through the rest of the gears? you will extend the time your engine is at high RPM for no reason.

Its cheaper to buy new transmission. Or slightly used from a donor.

I think everything is fine, I was testing it out today and I think I just have to rev match better, then it doesnt happen. But yeah, my warranty covers it for the next 3 years... so Im good.
