My 370z engine bites the dust

Hello the370z.com. My 370z touring edition started to stop accelerating when i rev at 3000 then i had shift and it did in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th, gear. So i took it to Power Nissan Torrance, CA. Nissan to get it checked out and Nissan said my car car didnt have enough oil. Nissan drained all the oil out the engine and little metal flakes was in the pan. Nissan came to a conclusion and said my engine was burning oil to fast which made the engine overheated and said thats what damage the engine. They had to replace the whole engine. I only had 2100 miles! Have happen to anyone? :wtf:

I think one or two people on here have had similar stories.

When was your car manufactured? (sticker in the door)

You need to check the oil in these on a very very regular basis...

Congrats! Nissan gave you a new engine with no hassle. Very good to hear.

Mine used a quart of oil in the first 1500 miles. You have to watch the oil level REAL close.

Isn't anyone concerned about this? A quart in 1,500 miles?

someone local to me had theirs go at 3100 miles, it was replaced with no hassle as well

You don't understand...This was a catastrophic failure of a part...It probably wasn't simple excessive oil usage that you could keep track of . Same thing happened to Lou Fusz's car here.
A seal went or something that literally pumped the entire oil supply through the engine in a real short period of time (minutes in Lou's case if I'm not mistaken).

Nissan replaced his engine as well. Stuff happens.

:iagree:

A quart of oil in 1500 miles is an aberration, not the norm. I only used a half quart after my first 3000 miles. Having said that, I do agree that it's a good idea to check your oil level regularly, especially during the early mileage when everything is still breaking in.

I guess not, do you have more info on the other car you mentioned?

Thanks,

Sure it throws up a red flag for Nissan and they will get it handled, but....... we are talking two separate significant issues.

By no means heard of two cars doing this from such a small amount of these on the road. Someone in Chicago said they had never seen another 370 on the road. Except for sitting in a dealership, can count the number seen in person on one hand (3) and live in a fairly affluent area. (not me.....the area )

A quart of oil in 1,500 miles in a new car? Got to be upfront...... Would personally have never thought to check the oil level that often on a new car. Never had to and never ever seen my wife even open a car's hood.

Regardless if the dealer fixes them or not, it's a real hassle. The last dealership rental car I had was pretty beat up and smelled like dog pee. Not that I have an image to keep up, just don't care to drive a pee smelling rental beater over a new Z.

Nissan will not even start to get concerned and run consumption tests until your burn rate drops below a quart per 1000 miles. 1 quart per 1500 is nothing to really worry about in the first few thousand miles. Good chance this will drop to nothing (as others have) once break in (5000 miles) is achieved..

What is the brand that comes pre loaded in the engine so I can buy a quart or two when I get it to keep it topped off until I can get it swapped out?
