Limp mode randomly on start is now about everytime

Hello all,

First time poster long time lurker. Please forgive me if this issue has been talked about or resolved but I couldn't find a thread that exactly had the same issue as I am having. This is what has been happening and any input is greatly appreciated!

About 8 months ago I got in my 2013 370z and it was a very warm day in the summer here in the Orlando Fl area. I live about 1 mile away from a main road so I didn't notice the lack of power until I pulled out into traffic. I put the pedal to the floor and it slowly and I mean slowly accelerated. Once I hit about 3500 rpms I went a little quicker but not by much. I pulled over and turned the engine off for about 30 seconds and back on. All was good. I didn't have a repeat of this issue for about 3 months.

Then about 5 months ago which was 3 months after the initial incident it started having this problem very sporadicly I mean maybe once every two weeks or longer.

Fast forward to this month and it is now happening about everytime on cold startups. It hasn't done it that I can remember after the engine has been on only cold.

My buddy just got a job as a tech at a local Nissan dealer and I have now brought it in twice. He replaced the brake light switch per recommendation from the master tech saying that could especially on an auto tranny cause it to go into limp mode. Unfortunately no fix. Last Friday it happened again about 2 days after the brake light switch was replaced but this time it threw a SES code. The code was bank 2 MAF. Took it to the dealer again we check the MAF that had thrown the code nothing wrong. An update was done to the CPU. It seemed to drive different for about 4 days but now since then it has done it twice this week.

I have the stillen gen 3 intake system installed and that is all that I have done. At this point I have about 5 months left on my warranty and we are all at a loss. Does anyone having any suggestions or resolutions?

I know you said you checked the MAFs but have you tried cleaning them? How many miles do you have?

28K miles doesn't make TBs seem a likely culprit. However, they are easy to clean yourself and just another thing to cross off the list of items to troubleshoot.

Also, it shouldn't matter how long you have left on your warranty. As long as you start the claim within your warranty period and they begin the diagnosis, you should be good (barring some aftermarket scam warranty maybe?). I filed a claim on my headliner with about 100 miles left the warranty. They had to order the headliner and reschedule the install, so I was well over the warranty mileage at the time of install. It was no problem.

I will try anything at this point. I should mention that I live on about a 1 mile dirt road so yes if I hasn't rained for a few days it is dusty but I'm always going slow however some neighbors pass me and they stir up quite a bit so cleaning various things might not be a bad idea given my location. I had the intakes installed at a Nissan dealer in Phoenix AZ where I had purchased the vehicle. The intakes were on in Phoenix for about a year before I moved here with the dirt road and never had any issues in PHX for that year. Maybe related but not sure

Had the same issue. Mine seems to have gone away with the csf triple pass radiator and fast intentions oil cooler. Removed oem cooler

I believe the ecu is pulling a ton of timing.. almost going into limp mode because of heat. It's just super conservative

the software update that was done fixed that issue on the maximas according to the tech bulletins that Nissan's techs use. It's supposed to be more forgiving in the values of things. Was yours on startups or when your driving. Mine is only on startups and never while driving and all I have come across were when people were actually driving.

So you mention that you have stillen Gen 3 intakes. Did you get the dry filter type or the oiled filter type? If oiled filter type, I have heard that over oiling the filters will muck up the MAF's. Have a read through this thread...

z does not accelerate

Gets into it on page 3 but some useful info in first few pages.

Driving on dusty roads all the time seems like it would clog up oiled filters as well. Just a thought.

they are oiled. When the issue started back up about 5 months ago I cleaned them and oiled them but not overly. When I pulled them out they were hardly dirty. At the dealer last week the MAF sesnors were both cleaned as well so I'm hoping that if any gunk which they appeared to be spotless would have been cleaned out. It's interesting that it started a few months after moving to Florida were I live on that dirt road

if you ran oiled filters they can be dirty at 28k. double check for process of elimination.

Has your dealer been giving you a hard time about the fact that you have an aftermarket intake on the car? AFAIK, that pretty much voids the warranty on the MAF sensors. But it sounds like they're surprisingly willing to work with you even despite that fact - very different from my own personal experience with my local dealership.

My good friend is a tech there so it works out well. I may take this with a grain of salt but when I had got them installed at Nissan they said they had gotten all the warranty approved becuase the dealer sold and installed them
