Nope. It was a head gasket leak. His mechanic said the oil was fine. But the oil change interval was Nissan's ace in the hole to avoid having to cover it under warranty. Crooks...

Put a long block in it. A short block may work if the heads are OK.
Just looked at the pics. I only see one with a slight gasket tear. I doubt that would cause you to eat the motor. The leak would have gone right back to the oil pan being it was in the front cover. I see nothing to indicate a major oil leak. Hate to say it but it looks like Nissan was correct. Just chalk it up as an Oh F. moment and get her fixed. Long block would be the way to go for sure. If you can find a low mileage engine out of an 12' or up it would be your best beat and it will have the factory oil cooler. The heads have a good chance of being junk on your current engine. Price around and get all of your options, even a long block from Nissan. Sometimes they may cut you a good deal. You never know until you ask. Last edited by Spooler; 02-09-2015 at 08:00 PM. |

Damn. My bad. Yeah thats a rough one. Id def not part it though. If anything drop a used block in and fund another one. Or get a new/short/long block and give her the juice!

370Z Engine Low Miles VQ37VHR | eBay He mentioned it was from a car that was rear ended and totaled. He also said he got it to drop in a 240 but decided to sell it. 90 day guarantee also

And with that you can still put 600+ to it reliably all day. If you need anything for the motor besides the shortblock..I have it all for sale. Heads and all.

Good plan. Just get a relatively stock motor, hopefully good motor, swap, change fluids, etc., and get yourself going again. Then continue paying off your car.

Do you have the space to store them? I might consider holding on to them until you are comfortable there are no problems with the new motor. But if you need to recoup some funds, I can understand the desire to sell them.
