Default Clutch and Flywheel Questions

im upgrading C&FW soon and have a few questions....im gonna buy from joe@zspeed and ive hear that the ss southbend kit with 14.5 lbs aluminum flywheel isnt as good or reliably as the steel...obviously steel is stronger but i heard that ppl have had their flywheel blown at 7k and 9k. i want the ss kit its a bit cheaper and plus i want a slightly lighter flywheel what should i do?! i dont have the money down the line to fix a blown flywheel lol i have other plans and bills to pay

I'm not sure what you mean by a blown flywheel, but I've seen very few failures of either material on the forum. Why are you upgrading?

Also, are you prepared for the massive increase in noise from a single piece lightweight flywheel.

did you talk to him yet and see if he can put together a deal where you buy the steel flywheel and the clutch you want? since you say you do not have the money to replace the flywheel did you look at z1 clutch and flywheel combo? Also, if you do not plan to turbo or supercharge then would you consider a good clutch, but one that isn't rated for 500 whp? That might save you some money and you could get whatever clutch and flywheel to go with that.

I am looking at both z1 and the zspeed that you want. With the adjusted price for our motor on zspeed it puts their clutch combo a few hundred bucks more than z1 and also if you opt for the quiet clutch option that is more $$. You could get the z1 combo and the zspeed hd csc replacement for about the same price of the ss+flywheel based at what I am seeing.

For street use I would not worry too much about flywheel choice, Either will hold up fine, Southbend is also now using a high quality Fidanza aluminum flywheel with the SS Street kits.

Noise is going to be there with ANY flywheel unless you get the "Quiet Disk" kit, This will knock it down to almost unnoticeable levels with any flywheel although you can here some noise but muted only under 2500rpms under load conditions, Not many people drive around in 1st-2nd gears at this RPM so its not really noticeable.
