Sound of metal dragging on concrete.

A coupe of times at low speed almost rolling when making a turn I hear a sound as if the exhaust or a piece of metal is being dragged under the car. I had the car on lifts earlier and couldn't see any evidence of any scrape marks anywhere.

Any idea what it might be? Perhaps my imagination? The second time it occurred near my driveway. I checked road for metal objects but there was none.

In what way fella? It sounds tinny like that. But what would cause it make noise?

I truly don't know why they would flex while turning but... It might be worth a shot to take the wheel off and inspect it?

stone stuck between the dust shield or caliper?
i get the noise randomly too, sounds like a tree branch dragging against an exhaust heat shielda

Typically this is the noise I get too. Very random. Always makes you think something is broken. And always at low speed. There's a parking lot at work that has lots of small pebbles, almost sand, laying around. I get it every single time. As long as it isn't consistent. You can also pry the dust shield back a touch for more clearance.

On the other side of that, have you hit any deep puddles of water lately? I did once. Didn't realize that area of the road was flooded out and hit it at 45mph. Bent the shield under the drive shaft into the drive shaft. Anytime under engine braking the shaft would shift down and scrape. It was not immediately evident. You have to look for it.

But right now I'm betting on pebbles.

i vowed never to buy slotted rotors again after i had them on my Mazda because they seemed to attract said or small rocks which get lodged in the slot then gets picked up by the pad and scores an ugly ring in the rotor. happened to me 6 times on the Mazda and currently it's happened to one of my Z's slotted rotors (which i got for a bargain).

so larger rocks being slung around by the wheels is not to be ruled out. good luck!

Yeah. Could be pebbles, the road I reside on has lots of tiney pebbles which you can hear hitting under the fenders and floorpan when driving.

Lol WTF? I know you're upside down, but does that mean you guys only drive on unpaved roads?

I have a 2013 and I also notice a gringing noise when I turn my wheel completely to the left or right. Was moving very slowly when this happened. Looked at the tires, underbody...no signs of damage. Going to have it checked out at my dealer as I only have 14K miles.

SouthArk370Z 02-27-2015 07:04 PM

Are you sure it's not normal tire scrub?

I have had the same exact problem, I punched my rim and it went away forever. It was the brake duct shield. That mofo needed a good punch and it settled bak in, I opened a thread like a year ago on it, hasnt happened since

Limeybastard 03-03-2015 06:52 PM

You punched your rim?

You're going to need to elaborate on this.... I don't even really know where to begin asking questions. I suppose we could start with: Why would punching your rim make a difference?

I'm not that much of a 370z forum veteren, but I do know elaborating is not his forte.
