I've never really seen a water/methanol system in use, or done a whole lot of research on the subject other than to know the basics. So basically this kit looks at the MAF sensor to see airflow data, and regulates a mist of water and alcohol into the intake air stream that's proportional to the airflow (or in the case of the stage 3 kit, uses I'm guessing a CAN connection to the car to look at more precise data instead of just tapping the MAF signal?).
In any case, my random methanol newbie questions: 1) How much HP increase would you expect on a WOT Dyno run with a system like this on an engine like ours (NA, not turbo'd)? 2) Does the ECU need to have new maps made to advance timing during WOT in order to take advantage of the water/meth injection? Or are we just relying on the fact that our ECUs are smart enough to self-adjust the timing as far as the fuel mix and temps allow? And in either case, how does the ECU know to back off again (other than to see bad knock happening first and *then* retard) when the tank goes empty in the middle of a drive then and you're back to normal fuel mix? 3) How long does the tank last? Is 3 quarts basically enough for 2-3 passes at the drag strip and then you refill? Or is 3 quarts more like "drive two hundred really hard miles with lots of WOT before it goes empty", or? |

have you guys tested your meth kit on a dyno after tuning it? I just traded in my Supercharged Cobalt...hade a Harrop TVS Supercharger installed with devils own meth kit and it made a huge difference...but thats with a blower. I wanna see what gains you can get for a NA car. I kept my meth kit for the 370z but not sure if i want to install it now or wait till i put TT in it.

It really depends on how you tune with it. I personally run my meth kit as a safety precaution for the race car rather than for power. I think with race fuel and meth, I gained about 10whp but and huge decrease in intake temp. It definately allows you to add timing without the worry of knock. I think you would notice a huge difference if you use it in conjunction with 91 or 93 octane. For me, with use with 100 octane it doesn't make that big of a difference.

I had a methanol kit by snow performance on my Acura RSX typeS Turbo and it made a world of a difference.
My injectors were tapped out, so the meth allowed me to increase my boost safely, without detonating. Very cool feature to have on a high performance-boosted car. I used to have a stand alone data logger and you could actually see the air intake temperature decrease as the kit came on. Very impressive. Lastly, Methanol is cheap compared to race gas. |

So will this boost hp w/o a tune? I guess I ask because I posted asking about using cam2 fuel or something of the nature and was told that without a tune it won't do me any good so I am having a hard time seeing how this will help?
